    Who Is Joe Judge?

Joe Judge is the new head coach of the New York football giants and fans are excited as well as baffled. On Tuesday, the Giants announced Judge as their new head coach less than two hours after former Baylor Head Coach Matt Rhule signed with the Carolina Panthers. Insiders had reported that Rhule was the favorite for the Giants head coaching job before they turned their attention to Judge. While initial reports stated that the Giants couldn’t even land a meeting with Rhule, reports later clarified that the Giants refused to match the Panthers 60 Million dollar offer. Rhule was an incredible coach at Baylor, but we can all agree that 60 million for somebody who has never coached an NFL game before seems a bit much.

This article however, is not about the Giants poor leadership and failure to land their top target. This article is about Joe Judge, a man many Giants fans hope will develop their young talent into superstars. Judge is 38 years old, but has coached football for 15 years including 3 years at Alabama and 8 years with the New England Patriots. The highest position Judge has ever held (NCAA or NFL) is special teams coordinator and many were shocked he was hired. While it is an unconventional approach, John Harbaugh also became a head coach immediately following a special teams coordinator sting. Harbaugh has won a super bowl and is currently competing for another one in this years NFL playoffs.

The Giants are clearly banking on a strong education from Nick Saban and Bill Belichick. Both coaches are the best in their respective leagues and spoke incredibly highly of Judge when asked about how they thought he would do in his new role. There is even a rumor going around that suggests that Saban personally recommended Judge to Belichick and Belichick coached Judge weekly on how to lead a team. Giants fans can only hope that this gamble pays off and he brings big blue back to the playoffs.
