Kicking is a problem that NFL teams can no longer ignore

After Extra Point attempts were moved back in 2015, touchdowns no longer meant a guaranteed 7 points. However, in every season since 2015, NFL kicking has progressively became worse and kicking during the 2019-2020 NFL season has been incredibly bad. NFL kickers are collectively making about 80 percent of their field goal attempts this year (442-545). NFL collective FG percentage hasn’t been worse in over 15 years. As for Extra Points, things have been even worse. Kickers are nailing about 93.4% of their XP attempts this year, the lowest that mark has been in 40 years. Also, two of the longest tenured NFL kickers, Adam Vinateri and Matt Bryant have struggled extensively and it appears as though their careers are almost over. It is certainly a new era of kicking in the NFL and it is a position that NFL coaches need to work on. Numerous games have been decided by 3 points or less, and as the NFL season progresses, it is apparent that some teams would be in the playoff race if only they had a more consistent kicker.
