With May now finally here and the country awaiting baseball’s return, some Rockies fans have questions regarding the shortened season in 2020. One of the questions is this…will the Rockies have a better shot of making the playoffs than 2019. That’s a good question. I’d like to say yes, but according to several reports as of recently, the Rockies would play in a ten-team division just for this year and would have to deal with teams such as the Dodgers, Astros, Athletics, and Diamondbacks. That’s pretty tough to hear, especially as a Rox fan. We know that the Dodgers will be good most likely along with the Astros and Diamondbacks. That’s mostly the bad news.
The good news is that we will have Rockies baseball this year. On top of that, Rockies players and pitchers won’t need to be stressed about getting injured or getting enough starts during the season. They’ll have a clean slate in front of them in June or July whenever the season will start. In a lot of cases, a shorter season is a positive for many teams, including Colorado. It gives some players rest and relaxation from normal baseball time, but I’m sure they are eager to get back on the playing field. The sooner, the better for a lot of baseball fans. So going back to the question, will the Rockies have a better shot of making the playoffs?
My answer is yes and no. It sometimes all depends on how each player on a team or the team itself responds during that time of year. You have to remember that the teams will be away from their home ballparks and will not have fans attending the games which could affect some teams and their performances. Not being at Coors Field for a while could be a blow to the team because in past years, the Rockies have done better at Coors record wise than on the road. Having the shortened season has its pros and cons. We’ll have to just wait and see how this season will play out once it begins in late June.
