Ian Thomas graduated from Nassau Community College in 2016, and joined Indiana for his
junior year. He played all 13 games his first year at Indiana, acting as a blocking TE, only
recording 3 catches. As a senior he caught 25 passes for 376 yards, 5 touchdowns and won the Mackey Award Tight End of the Week for a 71 yard touchdown against Georgia Southern. Thomas was invited to the 2018 Senior Bowl, where i believe he did well and turned the heads of many scouts.
In the 2018 NFL Draft the Carolina Panthers selected Tight End Ian Thomas 101st overall in the fourth round, out of Indiana. Thomas’ rookie season was very promising, he made his NFL debut in the season opener against the Dallas Cowboys. In the 16–8 victory, he had four
receiving yards on his first two career receptions. Thomas finished the season with 36
receptions for 333 yards and 2 touchdowns, playing most of the season in the relief of Greg
Olsen who was dealing with the foot injury. His production dropped in his sophomore year for
many reasons, questionable coaching decisions, Greg Olsen back starting, and also dealt with an injury before the season.
Ian Thomas will have the opportunity to take the starting role in 2020. I strongly believe he’ll win the job and play at a very high level for Carolina. I have high expectations for Thomas in his third season, I know he wont disappoint. My stats prediction for him are 55+ receptions for 700+ yards and 4-5 touchdowns.
