These are the 5 Titans that will have a breakout season/year for the Tennessee Titans. All of these players mentioned on this list are arguable but I believe that these players can go off. Also in this list, I will have no rookies from this draft class, Isaiah Wilson, Kristian Fulton, etc. The entire Titans roster has a lot of potential breakout candidates, but these are the most likely to breakout.
5. Corey Davis
Corey Davis is the first potential breakout star on this list. He had a mediocre 3rd year with the Titans, only had 601 yards on 43 receptions. Not bad but not great, Davis was selected 5th overall by the Titans in the 2017 NFL Draft and the Titans believed that he could fill the number one wide receiver role. Instead, the number one receiver for the Titans is AJ Brown, who went on to have a phenomenal rookie year totaling over 1,000 yards receiving, something Corey hasn’t done yet. I wouldn’t call Corey Davis a bust, he has been pretty good over the past 3 years. I’d keep my eye on him in 2020.
4. Rashaan Evans
Rashaan Evans played a key part in 2019 for the Tennessee Titans, by being an off the edge middle linebacker that stops the run. He also can play pretty good coverage linebackers like Jayon Brown. Anyways, Rashaan Evans has proven to be a leader for this young team, by being a captain on defense. Expect Evans to get a bunch of more snap counts now that Wesley Woodyard is outta town. Evans will be going into his third year with the Titans in 2020.
3. Nate Davis
Nate Davis is a great blocker for the offensive line. He was a steal in the 3rd Round in the 2019 NFL Draft, he can pass block well and also plays a key role in pounding the football with Derrick Henry. Nate Davis is progressing and progressing he will get much stronger and more of an interior force with Kelly and Jones to the right and left to him. Both Nate Davis and Corey will be much better in 2020.
2. Ryan Tannehill
Ryan Tannehill played an excellent 10 games for the Titans in 2019, he replaced Marcus Mariota being 7-3 as a starter and bringing the Titans into the playoffs for the second time in three years. Tannehill also boosted all the points per game the Titans were averaging and passing yards per game. Mariota had the Titans 30th in Total Offensive Yards, with Tannehill the Titans have become a top ten offense, thanks to Tannehill and Derrick Henry. Tannehill will start 16 games for the Titans this season, as he hopes to improve his play action and on the run throwing. Tannehill will get a lot more TDs than he did in 2019 because he’s starting all 16 games instead of 10 regular season and 3 playoff games. Can’t wait to see Tannehill in 2020.
1. Jeffery Simmons
The final player on this list is Jeffery Simmons. Simmons played in only 8 games for the Titans due to a pre-combine injury (Torn ACL). The Titans did an excellent job examining and monitoring him until he came back in week 7 against the Chargers. Simmons, has terrific run stopping skills and can get to the quarterback if he needs to. Fully healthy Jeffery Simmons is going to be a threat to opposing offenses in 2020. “Whenever I get my strength back, It’s going to be a problem,” Simmons said in a pre-draft interview. Jeffery Simmons will also get more snaps and playing time due to the departure of Jurrell Casey.
In conclusion, the Tennessee Titans have many breakout candidates, and I think these are the most likely to succeed in 2020. There are also Honorable mentions: Malcolm Butler, Vic Beasley, Rodger Saffold, Kenny Vaccaro, etc.
