The Marlins today signed right-handed pitcher Brad Boxberger to a minor league deal that includes an invite to spring training.
The 31 year old veteran has played for four teams in his eight years. Boxberger last year had a 1/3 record with an ERA of 5.40 in 26.2 inning. The veteran is looking for a bounce back season with the Marlins.
In 2016, Boxberger started to struggle in his third season as he posted a 4.71 ERA in 24.1 innings. Ever since, he has not looked the same.
The Marlins also made the signing of Sean Rodriguez official. Rodriguez played every position last season except Catcher last season with the Philadelphia Phillies. In 112 at bats, he managed to bat .223 with four home runs and 12 RBI’s.
With both of these signings, the Marlins are proving to add more depth to the weaker positions. If Brad Boxberger can bounce back, he could be a late bullpen player added before the start of the season or sometime during the regular season. Sean Rodriguez brings depth to every position and is a guy that can start or come off the bench to pinch hit.
