After the heart breaking loss today to the Denver Broncos the Chargers are officially eliminated from playoff contention. The Chargers have been killed this season by injuries and recent struggles from Veteran quarterback Philip Rivers. With our season over, what should we do in the offseason? First off the quarterback issue must be addressed. Rivers is likely gone this offseason, so a replacement is the big question. If the Chargers get a good pick who should we draft? Tua is likely to return to Alabama due to his hip injury, Burrow will likely go number number one overall and Herbert may very likely go to the Dolphins. One very good option is Jalen Hurts, a very versatile QB who can kill you on his feet, and has improved his throwing skills. I would not be surprised if he goes to the Bolts at whatever pick we have. Another option is going with an OT in the first round. There are many great OT’s available this year and we should certainly pick one. So let’s say we go OT first round, a good QB that is likely to fall to the second round is Jacob Eason. A guy not talked about much out of Washington, I really like this kid. We could then possibly re-sign Rivers to a veteran deal and develop Eason behind him for a year or two. There are also a few free agency options. Cam Newton will be a big name come March. The Panthers have been rumored to either trade or release him this offseason and I would love for us to go out an get him. He’s a guy that you know can produce at a high level and can give us the mobility Rivers has failed to give us over the years. Another guy is Marcus Mariota. The Titans are all but certain to move on from him, and given the right weapons around him could be useful and finally show the talent that he had coming out of college. Of course you would need to surround him with a good online that could protect him. No matter what Telesco decides to do, the Chargers will have to make big changes this offseason if they want to compete for a superbowl.
