Linebacker Tremaine Edmunds has had a massive impact on the Bills defense, which has ranked near the very top of the league for the past few years. Edmunds was taken with the 16th pick in the 2018 draft out of Virginia Tech. He was the second-youngest player drafted in NFL history at 20 years old. Despite his young age, Edmunds had an immediate impact in his rookie year. He led the Bills in total tackles with 121, and also recorded 2 sacks, 2 interceptions, and 2 forced fumbles. In his sophomore season, Edmunds again led Buffalo in total tackles, which helped him secure his first Pro Bowl season at just 22 years old.
Defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier raved about Tremaine’s development as a player and leader, saying “When you look at the fact that he’s just going into his third season and just turning 22, so young, so much promise ahead of him, and he’s achieved so much already. I mean, to already be recognized as one of our leaders on our team and on our defense. We’re very, very fortunate to have him. He’s the epitome of what you would want one of your star players to be. A guy you don’t have to worry about late at night. You know he’s going to be where he’s supposed to be, you know he’s going to do what he’s supposed to do when it comes to football.”
Frazier’s comments speak to how big of an impact Edmunds has had on and off the field at such a young age. He has the size, speed, and athleticism to become one of the next superstars at the linebacker position. Thus, Edmunds will excel as a member of the Bills this year and is the most underrated player on the team.
