As many rumours are emerging based around the Bucs obvious QB situation, one theme seems to be common: The Bucs are heavily considering signing a Veteran QB.
After it was made clear that Phillip Rivers had moved to Florida, speculations rose that he might have moved due to a possible link between him and the team. Later, it was also made apparent that Patriots QB, Tom Brady might also have a future with a new team, especially Tampa Bay, which was considered to be one of the front-runners for landing the 6x Super Bowl Champion.
The Jameis Winston situation is unfolding to be a very difficult choice for the Bucs. Without a doubt, Winston is able to get the ball downfield and into the endzone, proven by his 5K+ passing season, backed up with his 33 passing touchdowns. But as they say, all good things come with a price, and it was obvious this season, with Jameis Winston becoming the ONLY player in NFL history to ever throw both 30 touchdowns AND 30 interceptions in the same season. Those turnovers proved to be very costly, and forced the Bucs to lose in an ugly fashion. The turnovers also come when everything is on the line, which hurts more than anything. For example, in the first game of the season, against the eventual NFC Champions, the score against the 49ers was close, until Winston lost control and turned the ball over in the last few minutes to San Francisco, who was able to maintain their victory. Later, all the way down the road on the last game of the season, the Bucs were fighting hard for their first winning record in 2 years. Instead, Winston threw a Pick Six in overtime to lose the game. Sure our O-Line is terrible, but that type of play is just inexcusable, and the blame should mostly be put on Winston’s shoulders.
As a result, It might be time to move on to more successful options, such as Brady or Rivers, or any other QB who will be open this off-season. Along with picking up a Veteran QB in the off-season, the Bucs might need to select a young QB in the draft, either this or next year, so they can learn under a more-experienced and successful NFL QB.
