Knicks Coaching Update: Mike Woodson Edition

According to Marc Berman, Mike Woodson desperately wants to join the Knicks in any type of coaching role.

Supposedly he was open on taking a job as an assistant when Fizdale was there, but the Knicks brass thought that he would outshine Fizdale.

On March 14th, 2012, Woodson was named interim head coach after the resignation of Mike D’Antoni. In his debut as interim, the Knicks crushed the Blazers by 42 points. Woodson was named full-time head coach in May of that year. The Knicks ended the season under Woodson 18-6, going 36-30 overall (lockout season). That season we lost 4-1 to the Heat, but after a 54-28 season with the Knicks the following season, we made it to the second round to the playoffs, losing to the Pacers. After a disappointing third year, Woodson was fired in April 2014.

A lot of fans loved Woody since he was able to bring us back to the playoffs, and bring that winning feeling back to NY. Many people didn’t believe he deserved to be fired in the first place. Expect Woodson to get a role with the Knicks this summer, specifically an assistant coaching job as it seems more and more likely that Thibs will be getting the HC job.
