New Michigan Co-DC Hire is Making an Immediate Impact on Recruiting

You may already know that Michigan has hired former Cowboys Defensive Backs coach Maurice Linguist as the Co-Defensive Coordinator, but you probably don’t know how much he has already done. Within a day of him being named to the Wolverines’ defensive staff, Coach Linguist has already reached out to 2022 five star Cornerback Will Johnson out of Grosse Pointe South High School. Will is an extremely sought after recruit, and although it seemed like Michigan was out of the race, Johnson just recently pushed back his commitment date which had been scheduled for the end of January. Johnson, who is good friends with likely USC Trojan and fellow 2022 five star Cornerback Domani Jackson, has been speculated to commit to USC with Domani. Now that Johnson has delayed his commitment, many experts, including Lead Rivals High School and College analyst Mike Farrell, believe Johnson has changed his mind and will not commit to USC, but instead to the University of Michigan. To all of this there is a caveat: for months there has been constant talk of Johnson and Jackson committing to the same university to be a “two headed monster” in college. If things play out the way the experts are now expecting them to, the two will likely go their separate ways in college. If you are confused and wondering what you should take away from this, it’s simple: Coach Linguist is already proving to be a great recruiter, and for the Wolverines this may be the light at the end of a long, dark tunnel of years of getting worse at the defensive back position. If you are interested in Will Johnson and Domani Jackson’s high school profiles, they are both linked below.
