Knicks Coaching Search Update: Kenny Atkinson Edition

The Knicks interviewed Kenny Atkinson a third time for the head coaching role on Monday.

Obviously, this means that he is one of the front runners for the position.

Even though in his first two seasons as the Nets HC, he went 48-116 overall, you have to remember that those Nets teams were atrocious. In his third year, he went 42-40, and made a lot of players better such as D’Angelo Russell, Spencer Dinwiddie, Caris Levert, Jarrett Allen, and more! The negatives of Kenny are that some of his rotations, especially late game are suspect, and his playcalling in the last two minutes is a little fishy. However he is really good with the X’s and O’s, and we have seen how he helps improve a young roster, just like the Knicks.

It now seems like it is down to Jason Kidd, Tom Thibodeau, and Kenny Atkinson for the job, with Thibs still being the front runner.

Expect to get a good grip on who our next coach is in the next few days as we get closer and closer to the end of July.

Update: Supposedly the Knicks are most likely going to try to hire one of the head coach candidates as an assistant coach. Obviously, with the Mike Woodson news, he can definitely be one of those people, as well as interim head coach Mike Miller.
