Auburn today set multiple records after cruising past the South Carolina Gamecocks 109-86. This was the worst defensive performance to date under Coach Martin. The 109 Points scored by Auburn are the most scored in their program in a road SEC win.
Coach Martin stated that the defense was not good against Missouri and continued to get worse today against the Tigers.
The Tigers shot 52% from the field and three, as well as 15-16 (94%) from the line. They had a plus 10 rebound advantage and ended with 21 assists as a team.
Auburn had five players in double figures, led by sophomore Allen Flanigan’s career-high 24. Freshman Sharife Cooper had a double-double (16 points and 12 assists) but was the only man to miss a free throw for the Tigers. Jaylin Williams, JT Thor, and Devan Cambridge were the other three in double digits.
Despite the record-breaking loss, Keyshawn Bryant and AJ Lawson were the two standouts from today’s game. Keyshawn Bryant led all Gamecocks with 24 points, as well as adding five rebounds. AJ Lawson’s slump could be over after having 23 points, two rebounds, two assists, and a stellar 6-8 from behind the arc. Jermaine Couisnard was the only other Gamecock in double figures. He ended with 16 points, six assists, and five rebounds.
As a team, the Gamecocks shot 42% from the field and 9-24 from three. South Carolina made 21 of their 29 free throws but the poor defensive performance didn’t help in mounting a comeback. The Gamecocks also led in steals with nine.
South Carolina was without Alanzo Frink and Jalyn McCreary. Both players were at the game with masks on. South Carolina hopes to have them back for Wednesday’s matchup against the Georgia Bulldogs.
