Miami Dolphins Most Impactful Draft Selections From Each Of The Past 10 Drafts

    2010- S Reshad Jones

Although Reshad Jones was recently released by the Dolphins, he has had a very impactful career with Miami. The 2 x pro bowler has recorded 21 interceptions, 776 total tackles, 3 forced fumbles, and 6 total defensive TDs, which is the most defensive TDs by a Miami Dolphin.

    2011- C  Mike Pouncey

Mike Pouncey was drafted in the first round of the 2011 NFL draft and had a big role on the Miami Dolphins o-line for 7 years. Although he was injured quite frequently, the three time pro bowler only allowed 12 sacks in his tenure with the Dolphins.

    2012- QB Ryan Tannehill

You’re probably wondering, Ryan Tannehill? Yes, Ryan Tannehill. The 2012 Miami Dolphins draft class was one of the worst of the decade and Tannehill was not all that bad. Although Tannehill did not have a very successful tenure with the Dolphins he showed his flashes. He was part of the reason the Dolphins had a chance to make the playoffs in 2016 and had more comeback wins (15) then Aaron Rodgers (14) in his time as a Dolphin.

    2013- TE Dion Simms

The 2013 draft class was arguably the worst draft class in Miami Dolphins history. Dion Simms is the most impactful player from this draft class and that should tell you the story. Simms best year came in 2016 when he had 200 plus yards and 4 TDs in limited playing time. He was known for being a blocking TE as he helped the last solid o line Miami has had in years.

    2014- WR Jarvis Landry

Jarvis Landry has been one of the better WRs in the league his whole entire career and one of the best WRs Miami has ever had. Jarvis Landry was traded to the Browns after an enjoyable 4 year tenure with the Dolphins as no deal could be made. He made the pro bowl 3 out of 4 years with the Dolphins and recorded the most receptions in the league in 2017.

    2015- RB Jay Ajayi

The 2015 draft class gave Miami a few stars in Jay Ajayi, Bobby McCain, and Devante Parker. Although Devante Parker could be argued here, Ajayi was one of the best running backs in 2016. The all pro RB tied a NFL record for the most 200 yard games in one season (3).Ajayi played a pivotal role in why the Dolphins made the playoffs in 2016. Ajayi was then traded a year later to the Eagles where he won a superbowl.

    2016- OT Laremy Tunsil

The 2016 Dolphins draft class was one of the best draft classes Miami has had in recent years. Along with Tunsil came Xavien Howard, Kenyan Drake, and Jakeem Grant. You could argue Howard for sure here, but Tunsil was one of the best young OTs in the league with the Dolphins and helped anchor down the line his rookie year when they made the playoffs. He only allowed 8 sacks in his tenure. He was recently traded to the Texans for a huge haul in return.

    2017- DT Davon Godchaux

The 2017 draft class has not panned out the way the organization would have liked, but it did give the Dolphins Davon Godchaux who is one of the more under-appreciated players on the dolphins. Godchaux managed to pick up 75 tackles this year, 6 for a loss, and 2 sacks. While his numbers might not jump off the page, he has been an extremely steady and reliable player for the Dolphins. In fact, only five more defensive tackles have had more tackles than Godchaux since he entered the league in 2017. Godchaux leads all defensive lineman from the 2017 class in stops-despite him being the twenty eighth d-lineman taken in the class.

    2018- Jason Sanders

Even though the 2018 draft class was only two years ago, so far this draft class has produced solid players who could have a big role for years to come. Although Minkah Fitzpatrick would most likely be the most impactful, he was traded to the Steelers after requesting a trade. While this will most likely change in a year or 2, kicker Jason Sanders has been the most impactful player from this class. Yes, a kicker. Sanders has achieved AFC Special Teams player of the month for December, Kicked 7 field goals in one game which is a franchise record, caught a touchdown pass on a trick play, executed a perfect Onside kick , AFC Special Teams player of the week , and lastly a game winning field goal that beat the Bears in OT.

    2019- Christian Wilkins

Wilkins was the 13th overall pick last year and had a nice rookie campaign. He recorded 30 total pressures his rookie season which is tied for 3rd most among rookie DL since 2016. He also totaled 56 total tackles which was the most out of all rookie DL. Wilkins and Godchaux were really the only two reliable DL on the team last year. As long as Wilkins continues to develop, he has a bright future.
