Back in 2018, The Marlins and Brewers agreed on a trade that would send star outfielder Christian Yelich to the Milwaukee Brewers. The Marlins acquired guys such as pitcher Jordan Yamamoto and second baseman Isan Diaz, but one guy who has been overlooked is the young Monte Harrison.
The 24-year-old Monte Harrison was drafted by Milwaukee back in the 2nd round of the 2014 draft. He spent most of his time in rookie ball as well as the Single A. Once he got to Miami, he jumped up to Double-A and played last season in Triple-A.
Monte Harrison last season had a solid year despite a wrist injury and ended up playing in 56 games. In those 56 games, he put up a line of .274/.357/.451. He also managed to hit 9 home runs with 29 RBI’s.
Harrison’s advanced stats slightly dropped because of injury but his career numbers still show he has a great bat. Harrison had a WRC of 36 and a WRC+ of 97. His wOBA was still high as he slashed .348.
Monte Harrison also proves that he has the glove in his game. Harrison’s depth is great as he can play anywhere in the outfield. Combined over all three positions, he had a high fielding percentage of .975. Over 6 years in the minors, he holds a career fielding percentage of .980.
Monte Harrison this spring proved that he deserves a spot on the big league squad. In 15 games this spring, Monte posted .364/.481/.500 with an OPS of .981. He also showed the speed with 6 stolen bases.
As the season looks to start, Monte Harrison has a spot this year. The only thing that is stopping him is the depth in the Marlins outfield; however, with a possible shortened season, Monte Harrison could get his shot to show what he can do in the bigs.
