    Panthers Early 2020 Mock Draft

The Carolina Panthers have alot of questions regarding their draft picks and the plan moving forward into this decade. The Panthers will select at number seven overall and have multiple positions of need with a decent amount of draft capital. David Tepper, Marty Hurney, and Matt Rhule will have great opportunity to get different makers for the franchise.

The Panthers have all seven of their picks, and this is who i believe the team should select in each round.

Round 1: Derrick Brown | DT | Auburn

    6’5 | 315lbs

    2019 Stats – 54 TKL | 11.5 TFL | 4.0 SK | 2 FF

The Carolina Panthers run defence has to improve in 2020 if the defence doesn’t want to be dead last without LB Luke Kuechly, i think this 21 year old Defensive Tackle from Auburn can bring a force on the DL we need and will develop with Kawann Short, Dontari Poe and Gerald McCoy if he is resigned.

Round 2: Patrick Queen | LB | LSU

    6’1 | 227lbs

    2019 Stats – 77 TKL | 9.5 TFL | 2.5 SK | 1 INT

Like the Derrick Brown pick, this is to improve the run defence and hopefully replace the gaping hole left by Luke Kuechly’s retirement. Queen (20) has a really high motor, had a breakout junior season for the Tigers, and has been compared to Kwon Alexander.

    Round 3: J.R. Reed | S | Georgia

    6’1 | 194lbs

    2019 Stats – 54 TKL | 7 PD | 1 INT

Carolina is going need help in the backfield of the defence with the possibly of Tre Boston leaving in free agency, so i have them taking J.R. Reed who was a solid and dependable safety for Georgia. Reed is a smart and reliable defender.

Round 4: Chase Claypool | WR | Notre Dame

    6’4 | 228lbs

    2019 Stats – 66 REC | 1,037 YDS | 13 TDS

Panthers add a big, physical receiver who is tough and dangerous with the ball in his hands. Claypool made some very impressive runs after the catch in 2019 and i believe he can be a nice number 2 option beside DJ Moore with Curtis Samuel in the slot.

Round 5: Stanford Samuels III | CB | Florida St.

    6’2 | 185

    2019 Stats – 60 TKL | 7 PD | 2 INT

Carolina selects a new outside CB to put Donte Jackson in the slot, Samuels played well for the Seminoles over the last two years and fits into a press-man scheme like James Bradberry does, who the team should resign.

    Round 6: John Simpson | G | Clemson

    6’4 | 330

Simpson is a big blocker who has started at left and right guard for Clemson over his collegiate career. He was solid for Clemson and could be a great interior lineman for the Panthers.

Round 7: Denzel Mims | WR | Baylor

    6’3 | 208lbs

    2019 Stats – 66 REC | 1,020 YDS | 12 TDS

Mims hasn’t gotten a lot of attention, but he has been a solid receiver for the Bears over his collegiate career and i know Matt Rhule is going to want to draft atleast one of his guys in his first draft as Head Coach of the team.
