ESPN’s FPI model is a prediction system for the NFL. Each team’s FPI rating is composed of a predicted offensive, defensive and special teams efficiency, as measured by expected points added per play, and that rating is the basis for FPI’s game-level and season-level projections. ESPN has the Titans on their model at #16 with a projected win total of 8.4 and a 55% of making the playoffs.

Legend: BOLD=Primetime

Week One: Titans @ Broncos, Monday Night Football, 10:15 PM EST.

This is a very tough draw for the Titans and It’s the last game of opening weekend for the Titans. They will lose this game 27-23. West Coast also the game is in Denver, but this will be an AFC Championship hangover for the Titans.

Week Two: Jaguars @ Titans.

This is a good matchup for the Titans, but I have the Titans beating the jags at home in Nashville. Overall the Titans have the better team and the Jags can’t stop Henry or Tannehill’s pass attack. Titans on top 30-14.

Week Three: Titans @ Vikings.

This matchup is both similar teams, both will run the ball and both open up big play-action type plays. Defenses are both very similar. Titans have more of a complete side than the Vikings, but the Vikings have an elite defense. The Vikings win 23-20.

Week Four: Steelers @ Titans.

This game will also be very close, because the steelers aren’t injured, and they still have Ben Roethlisberger. But being healthy doesn’t mean the Steelers will win. I have the Titans also winning 28-23. Plus I think Derrick will run all over the Steelers.

Week Five: Bills @ Titans.

The Titans most of the time loss to the Bills at this point in the season, I think the Titans can stop Josh Allen, and pressure him enough the Titans will win this game. 17-10 Titans. Titans get their revenge on the bills.

Week Six: Texans @ Titans.

Another good matchup, two great defenses that could get better pass rush wise. Deshaun Watson loses key receiver De’Andre Hopkins, but adds Brandon Cooks and Randall Cobb. I still think the Titans defense will get to Watson, and the Titans overpower the Texans, 34-20.

Week Seven: BYE, I think this is a good placement for the BYE week for the Titans because it allows their players to get more healthy and put extra work in.

Week Eight: Titans @ Bengals.

The Titans will take down Joe Burrow and the Bengals. The rushing attack for Derrick Henry will once again show vs the Bengals lack-luster defense. It will be close but the Titans will edge out 24-20.

Week Nine: Bears @ Titans

The Titans face the Bears, I’m going to take the Titans because Taylor Lewan will neutralize Khalil Mack, and I don’t think Trubisky will do anything out of the ordinary against this Titans team. The Bears got a good defense and the Titans have a good offense and the Titans come away with this one, 17-13.

Week Ten: Colts @ Titans, Thursday Night Football, 8:25 PM EST.

The Titans will play the Colts at home on TNF, the game is in Tennessee, so I pick Titans, this game will also be fun to watch.

Week Eleven: Titans @ Ravens.

The AFC Divisional Round rematch, Lamar was a little off his game and so were his wideouts, especially his Tight Ends. The Titans played great defense against them in the playoffs. But I think the Ravens get their revenge on the Titans and they win 28-17.

Week Twelve: Titans @ Colts.

The Colts at this point of the season will start to do good with Philip Rivers, I just don’t see the Titans winning in Indy at this point of the season. They split with the colts and lose, 30-17.

Week Thirteen: Browns @ Titans.

Browns and Titans are both similar teams, they both ground and pound the football to open up the pass. Both are gonna look for their star Tight Ends, once again Titans are home and they win 38-27.

Week Fourteen: Titans @ Jags.

The Jaguars win this one, Gardner Minchew plays good (so far) against the Titans and they go on to win this game 24-10. The Jags pull the absolute upset.

Week Fifteen: Lions @ Titans.

Great time to play the Lions, when they’re hurt, inconsistent and irrelevant. The Lions also haven’t made the playoffs since 2015, with a heartbreaking loss to the Seahawks. Since then the Lions haven’t been anything more of a laughing stock.

Week Sixteen: Titans @ Packers, Sunday Night Football, 8:20 PM EST.

The Titans match up well against the packers. Derrick Henry also could have a really big game, but the passing game will struggle in Lambeau. Plus this is in December in Green Bay, it will be snowing, and the Titans aren’t too well in the snow, for that reason I have them losing to the Packers, 34-20.

Week Seventeen: Titans @ Texans.

The Titans are getting better at the end of the season, so that is why I have them beating the Texans in Houston, 27-20. The Titans rush attack is too much for the Texans to handle on their own.

In conclusion, I have the Tennessee Titans going 10-6 for the 2020-21 NFL Season, making the playoffs and winning the AFC South. The Titans floor is 7-9, with their ceiling being 12-4.

Redoing Top Ten Picks of NFL Draft: Part 2 (2012) https://field2court.com/2020/05/04/redoing-top-ten-picks-of-nfl-draft-part-2-2012/ https://field2court.com/2020/05/04/redoing-top-ten-picks-of-nfl-draft-part-2-2012/#respond Mon, 04 May 2020 15:18:05 +0000 https://field2court.com/?p=7034 Despite this article being published after the NFL Draft, let’s stay in draft spirit by redoing the top ten picks of the 2012 NFL Draft.

As a reminder, all trades made on draft night within the top ten selections will still be included. The 2012 was loaded with quality quarterbacks, while also fielding some of today’s NFL defensive superstars.

This was extremely difficult, as the amount of defensive talent in this draft is incomparable to any other, so here are a few honorable mentions to this draft list just to show you how deep this draft went: Fletcher Cox, Josh Norman, Dont’a Hightower, Melvin Ingram, Whitney Mercilus, and Janoris Jenkins.

That is right, all those top-tier defensive players did not make the top ten. That just shows how stacked this class was.

The 2012 NFL Re-Draft is open, and the Colts are on the clock.

1: Indianapolis Colts: Russell Wilson, QB

Easily the top quarterback in this class. I like the original pick with Andrew Luck, but Luck’s retirement pushes Wilson to the top slot. Unlike in Seattle, Wilson will be able to have a strong run game, and have protection, thus making him more dominant than ever.

2: Washington Redskins: Luke Keuchly, LB

While they originally went with RGIII, I believe they should have gone elsewhere. While Luke Keuchly might have retired this offseason, he is still the best defensive player in this class. The Redskins defense has been lacking for many years now, but this all changes when they get Keuchly.

3: Cleveland Browns: Bobby Wagner, LB

Bobby Wagner might have the closest skillset to Keuchly not just in this class, but in the NFL as a whole. Wagner is a tackle machine, and this pick would be a complete reversal in impact on the team compared to Trent Richardson. Wagner would become a fan-favorite in Cleveland, and potentially even lead them to success.

4: Minnesota Vikings: David Decastro, OG

The Vikings went offensive line in the original draft, so I decided to stick with the same position despite there being better talent still left on the board. DeCastro is a great lineman who was rock-solid guarding Big Ben. Kirk Cousins will be lucky to have a strong line revolving around this guy.

5: Jacksonville Jaguars: T.Y. Hilton, WR

They went with J. Blackmon with the original pick. I like keeping the picks in the same position, so the Jaguars in this redraft will select the top wide receiver from this class T.Y. Hilton. If only he had a good quarterback to throw to him.

6: Dallas Cowboys: Stephon Gilmore, CB

Gilmore is easily the top cornerback in this class, and is potentially the best cornerback in the league. Gilmore solidifies the Cowboys’ secondary, which would be a better pick than Morris Claiborne.

7: Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Harrison Smith, SS

The hard hitting safety is just what the Buccaneers need. Smith has dominated the competition, and his power is no match to anyone else. Smith could have been the next Ronde Barber, but instead, he is dominating on the Vikings.

8: Miami Dolphins: Chandler Jones, DE

The Dolphins get a great pass rusher in Chandler Jones. In Arizona, he and Patrick Peterson were able to lead a very solid defensive unit. The Dolphins have many holes, but they cover a big one with Jones.

9: Carolina Panthers: Lavonte David, LB

With Keuchley off the board in this redraft, the Panthers need to take the next best available linebacker. David may not be Luke Keuchly, but David’s versatility and IQ make him worthy of being selected at the ninth slot.

10: Buffalo Bills: Casey Heyward, CB

The Bills originally went with Gilmore here, so they now need to find a different cornerback to select. While Josh Norman and Janoris Jenkins are great players, I believe that Casey Heyward would fit in well in Buffalo.

Tennessee Titans 2020 NFL Draft Grades https://field2court.com/2020/04/30/tennessee-titans-2020-nfl-draft-grades/ https://field2court.com/2020/04/30/tennessee-titans-2020-nfl-draft-grades/#respond Thu, 30 Apr 2020 13:30:34 +0000 https://field2court.com/?p=7155 In Focus: Kristian Fulton - LSU Tigers

Round 1, Pick 29: Isaiah Wilson, Tackle, Georgia. A-

The Tennessee Titans used their first-round draft pick on Jack Conklin’s replacement, Georgia’s Right Tackle Isaiah Wilson. The first time I saw Isaiah Wilson, he’s huge! At 6’7 350 he can do amazing impact run blocking for Derrick Henry in the backfield. Right now, the starting Right Tackle for the Titans is Dennis Kelly. Also a big man, standing at 6’8 321. It’s pretty safe to say, Vrabel loves his protection for Ryan Tannehill. In my opinion this was a really good pick for the Tennessee Titans in the first round.

Round 2, Pick 61: Kristian Fulton, Defensive Back, LSU. A+ (Pictured)

The Titans addressed their need for a slot corner that can also play outside. The Tennessee Titans lost Logan Ryan, which was a huge part of their secondary and they also lost Leshaun Sims. Kristian Fulton was the third-best corner in this draft, the fact that he fell to 61 was insane to me. I was very shocked when he was available in the second round alone. This gives the Titans a good CB3 assuming that Adoree Jackson and Malcolm Butler will start over him. Kristian Fulton also has amazing playmaking skills & the lockdown ability. Tremendous pick for the Titans fitting their need for a slot corner.

Round 3, Pick 93: Darrynton Evans, Running Back, App, State. B-

Third Round pick Darryton Evans was a big need for the Titans as they were looking for that backup role for Derrick Henry. Evans, listed at 5’11 201 had a 4.41, 40-yard dash. This will add speed to the Titans backfield, also Evans can find the open lane. The Tennessee Titans were 8-0 including playoff wins whenever Henry went for 100+ rushing yards. Evans will be ready to play a key backup role for the Titans under Derrick Henry.

Round 5, Pick 174: Larrell Murchison, Defensive Tackle, NC State. B

Larrell Murchison is a good pickup for the Titans to replace pro bowler, Jurrell Casey. He’s an all-around player at the DLine, you can put him at the edge, nose tackle, defensive tackle, etc. He also has a quick motor, his eyes are all-around the ball. At the top of his rush, he does a spin move to get off a few tackles to get to the quarterback. Murchison, also has some weaknesses like, unable to explode off the initial block, or that he has low reaction timing. I expect his role as a Titan is to be a key depth player behind Jeffery Simmons or Daquan Jones.

Round 7, Pick 224: Cole McDonald, Quarterback, Hawaii. A-

The Tennessee Titans selected Cole McDonald with their first 7th round selection in the 2020 NFL draft. McDonald can read defensive schemes and make adjustments as needed. Also he has a cannon as an arm throwing 65 yards flat-footed, and can also make touch throws to the runaway receiver. This is a perfect backup for the Titans as Jon Robinson (Tennessee TItans GM) can lay down the right cards with him, and make McDonald Succeed.

Round 7, Pick 243: Chris Jackson, Safety, Marshall. C

The Tennessee Titans got Chris Jackson from Marshall with their last pick in this year’s draft. Chris Jackson will be a backup to Dane Cruikshank, who is Kenny Vaccaro’s backup, so he will be a third-string on the depth chart. Jackson has a lot of speed and upside to his game, he can also play slot, dime, and nickel packages. In coverage at Marshall during his senior year, he had fifteen pass breakups and six passes defended. Needless to say, the Titans got a decent depth piece to match their secondary with.

All in all, the Titans did a really good job on their first-ever virtual draft. They got rotational depth pieces, some core backups including Darrynton Evans, Cole McDonald, Kristian Fulton, and Isaiah “Panda” Wilson. Looking forward to the 2020-21 season to arrive!

Redoing Top Ten Picks of NFL Drafts: Part 1 (2017) https://field2court.com/2020/04/22/redoing-top-ten-picks-of-nfl-drafts-part-1-2017/ https://field2court.com/2020/04/22/redoing-top-ten-picks-of-nfl-drafts-part-1-2017/#respond Wed, 22 Apr 2020 21:00:32 +0000 https://field2court.com/?p=6753 As we look upon tomorrow’s draft, let us look upon one of the best draft classes in modern era.

The 2017 NFL Draft was loaded with superstars ranging in all positions. This draft class included offensive superstars such as Christian Mcafferey, George Kittle, and Chris Godwin; but, also includes defensive pro-bowlers in Jamal Adams, Myles Garrett, and Tre’Davious White.

This re-draft will include all draft day trades. Plus, not all selections were based on skill: it depends on replicability at the position. For example, if this re-draft was purely based on skill, then close to half of the top ten picks would have been a runningback.

Now that the perameters have been set, let us re-draft:

1: Cleveland Browns: Patrick Mahomes, QB, Texas Tech

Patrick Mahomes, pictured above after winning Super Bowl LIV.

After being benched behind Alex Smith in his rookie season, Patrick Mahomes has played two star seasons for the Kansas City Chiefs. In this timespan, Mahomes has won the NFL’s MVP award, and most recently a Super Bowl victory, to name a few of Mahomes’ many achievements. The Chiefs made what will eventually be considered as the best move in their franchise’s history by trading to the 10th pick for Mahomes, nabbing the best player in the NFL. However, in this re-draft, the Browns decide to pick Mahomes instead of star defensive end Myles Garrett.

2: Chicago Bears: Myles Garrett, DE, Texas A&M

While Garrett’s season was cut short due to his incident involving Mason Rudolph in a regular season game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, let that not undercut Garrett’s talent. Garrett was more than well-deserving of the first-overall pick, but having the generational talent in Mahomes forces Garrett to move down a spot. The only reason I do not have Deshaun Watson landing here is because I think the Bears stick with Mike Glennon after signing him to a ridiculously large deal that offseason.

3: San Fransisco 49ers: George Kittle, TE, Iowa

While we all like to think of the Niners defense as formidable, it was not thanks to the likes of Soloman Thomas. But, that does not mean the Niners did this draft wrong, as they selected George Kittle in the fifth round. In this redraft, the Niners decide to select Kittle with their first round pick, and wait until the later rounds before even considering Thomas. Kittle has been an unstoppable force ever since being drafted into the league. At this point in time, the Niners have many holes, including quarterback, but they wait to get a quarterback until trading for Jimmy Garropolo. Kittle provides their team a dynamic blocker as well as a receiving threat that will scare defenses for weeks to come.

4: Jacksonville Jaguars: Christian Mccaffrey, HB, Stanford

The Jaguars initially selected Leanard Fournette at this spot. While I think this was a great fit, I believe that the Jaguars could have gone with a better running back. With uncertainty with Blake Bortles at quarterback, Mccaffrey will be playing in a nearly identical situation to the one he is currently in with the Panthers. Overall, CMC is a much better fit with this squad then Fournette is.

5: Tennessee Titans: T.J. Watt, EDGE, Wisconsin

Watt has improved in every season he has played, and has become a Defensive Player of the Year candidate with the Steelers. The Titans went with Corey Davis with this pick, which proved to be bust-worthy, especially now that they have a run-dominated offense with Derrick Henry. The Titans in this redraft go with defense, deciding between Jamal Adams and Watt. They eventually go with Watt, showing that they are confident in their safety group that is lead by Kevin Byard.

6: New York Jets: Jamal Adams, S, LSU

It is not often that in a redraft, a team goes with the same guy they went with in the actual draft. Even though there is uncertainty in his future with the Jets this offseason, the smart move is to keep their pick with Adams going at 6.

7: Los Angeles Chargers: Chris Godwin, WR, Penn State

While this may seem as a surprise to many, I think that the Chargers picking Godwin would be perfect. They initially went with Mike Williams, who they had hoped would provide Philip Rivers with a solid WR2 option. This would have spread the field more, allowing their star WR Keenan Allen and TE Hunter Henry to have more open space, creating more big plays. Williams has been a good pick, posting solid numbers when healthy. But, in comparison to Godwin’s breakout season, Williams stands no match. Chargers stick with a wideout here.

8: Carolina Panthers: Marlon Humphrey, CB, Alabama

Ever since the departure of Josh Norman and the rest of the core 15-1 Panther squad, the defense has been lacking in overall talent in exception to newly retired LB Luke Kuechly. This class features many great cornerbacks, including Tre’Davious White, and Marshon Lattimore. But, I am going with Humphrey. Since 2017, Humphrey has been hawking every pass thrown to him down, breaking up 47 passes, ranking fourth since he was drafted into the league.

9: Cincinnati Bengals: Tre’Davious White, CB, LSU

Like I mentioned in the previous selection, this class is loaded with studs at cornerback. The Bengals in the actual draft went with John Ross, going for a speedy wideout to be opposite to AJ Green. Ross has been plagued with injuries, making him not worthy of this selection. The Bengals secondary has been abysmal at best, so they take Pro-Bowl cornerback White at this pick. However, this Bengals team is still far from where they have to be, and even with the selection of White, I would still see the Bengals winding up with the first pick in tomorrow’s draft.

10: Kansas City Chiefs: Deshaun Watson, QB, Clemson

Those that are reading this, I know you are confused. The Chiefs trading to this pick for the fundamental purpose of drafting Patrick Mahomes. That is true. But, they still believe that they have their guy in Watson. While Watson might not be at the same level as Mahomes, Watson would play perfect to this speedy team. Andy Reid would style a playbook that would revolve lots of play-action, screens to both running backs and wide receivers, and QB runs, similar to the current Chiefs playbook. In my mind, this would be a no-brainer trade the Chiefs make to pick Watson.

The Tennessee Titans face the New England Patriots on Saturday at 8:15 PM, on Wild Card weekend in the playoffs. The Titans got into the playoffs by winning against the Houston Texans (35-14). The Texans were resting starters during this game so they could prepare for the Buffalo Bills. Pictured here is Logan Ryan, the Tennessee Titans Slot Corner back. Ryan has 4 Interceptions on the year tied for fourth-most in the NFL. In other news, Tennessee Titans Corner back Adoree Jackson came back to practice this week. He was out the past 5 weeks dealing with a fractured foot. Also during Sunday’s contest vs the Texans, Derrick Henry got the NFL rushing title for the 2019-2020 season. Henry is due for a contract extension March when he becomes an Unrestricted Free Agent. Derrick Henry is a hard running back to stop when in the open field or getting that quick burst. Henry broke out for a 55 yard TD against the Texans this past Sunday. Rookie sensation A.J Brown has been arguably the ROTY candidate, he will line up against Stephon Gilmore. When Gilmore went against Miami’s Devante Parker, Parker won the match-up by getting over 100 yards on only 8 Receptions. The only thing the Titans lack is secondary. It has been banged up every game this season. Starting with Malcolm Butler, he has been out with a broken wrist since week 8. As the Titans to prepare to face the greatest team in the playoffs, the mindset hasn’t changed for Safety Kevin Byard. Byard will go into the game, expecting a change in the Titans dynasty and hopeful to win against a team like the Patriots. The last time the Titans played the Patriots, the Titans were at home and won 34-10 against Brady and the squad. I would say the X-Factor to this game is Derrick Henry, he should get most of the carries for the Titans against New England. The Tennessee Titans are 7-0 when Henry has 20 or more carries. Titans set to kickoff against the Patriots on Saturday, with hopes to get a statement win.

This will end Succops 2019 Titans season. Succop finished the season 1 for 6 in field-goal attempts. That wasn’t good enough for Mike Vrabel. Vrabel said that the new kicker will give the team more opportunities to win. Greg Joseph spent the last few weeks on the Panthers practice squad. He also was on the Cleveland Browns most of 2018. The Titans have also waived their other kicker Ryan Santoso. Vrabel had previously hoped Santoso would do kickoffs and possibly field goals. Joseph will take that role for the Titans. In college at Florida Atlantic, he finished his career hitting 165-170 extra-point attempts. The Titans kicking issues are not the only problem the Titans have faced in the 2019 season. Injuries have also affected them. They’ve lost Edge rusher Cameron Wake, Corners Malcolm Butler and Adoree Jackson, and Guard Kevin Pamphile this season.

Also on Wednesday, the Titans added Nigel Harris to the active roster. The Titans also signed Trevion Thompson, who will go on the Titans practice squad. Thompson originally signed as an undrafted free agent with the Los Angeles Chargers in the 2019 Draft. He was injured during the offseason workouts and was waived by the Chargers following OTAs. He also spent a few weeks on the Buccaneers practice squad.

The Tennessee Titans play the New Orleans Saints at Nissan Stadium Sunday to bounce back from a lengthy ,excruciating loss against the Texans. Kickoff is at Noon Central Time and 1 PM Eastern.
