Why Julian Edelman Will Have a Monster Season in 2020 https://field2court.com/2020/04/22/why-julian-edelman-will-have-a-monster-season-in-2020/ https://field2court.com/2020/04/22/why-julian-edelman-will-have-a-monster-season-in-2020/#respond Thu, 23 Apr 2020 01:41:39 +0000 https://field2court.com/?p=6852

Julian Edelman’s 2020 Season

Most of you know Julian Edelman. Super Bowl 53 MVP and 3 time Super Bowl champion. A do-it-all, gritty receiver who plays for the New England Patriots. He was known as Tom Brady’s favorite receiver, that is of course, until Brady left for Tampa Bay. In this short article, I will tell his underdog story, explain why he is going to have a huge year, and give you my predictions.

Julian started his football career at San Mateo high school. He was a 5’10” quarterback in high school. His main goal was to get a scholarship to college. Finally, Kent State jumped on him, and even though he was a very undersized QB they wanted the ball in his hands every single play. He even did some kick and punt returns for them. His efforts impressed many people, including 6 assistant coaches for the Patriots that came to watch him. He was still not invited to the NFL Combine in 2009. However, that motivated him to work harder than ever. He ran a 3.92 shuttle at his pro day that same year, faster than any of the times recorded at the Combine that year by 0.04 seconds. Julian finally heard his name called on draft night by the New England Patriots in the 232nd overall pick in the 7th round. He still had a lot to prove, and he needed to earn his roster spot. He did do that and impressed the coaches a vast amount.

With Tom Brady gone, and his partner Gronk going with him, I expect Julian to be more fired up than ever. I think he will have a monster season this year. If I were him I would be absolutely infuriated. And knowing Julian, I’m sure he is. Tom was his guy, pretty much his brother for 11 years straight. And then he just left for Tampa Bay along with a TE who used to be out there catching passes alongside him. Julian is angry and he has every right to be. That’s why I see him going off this year, proving more people wrong.

I think Julian will be top 5 in receptions and receiving yards this year. Last season, he finished with exactly 100 receptions for 1,117 yards and 6 TDs. This year, with the added motivation and him being a rare veteran presence on the Patriots offense, I predict his numbers go up a ton. He has been in Bill Belichick’s complicated system for many years now. Also he has shown he is a very reliable target for many years, so I expect his added targets along with his determination to fuel him to achieve these numbers. I have him at around 1,275 yards. This may seem like too big of an increase but it is not for Edelman. I have him getting in the 110-120 range for the receptions. Lastly, I think he will score 8–10 TDs.

So, those are my predictions for Edelman’s 2020 season along with a little bit about his story. Like I said before, I think Edelman will have a fantastic

Redoing Top Ten Picks of NFL Drafts: Part 1 (2017) https://field2court.com/2020/04/22/redoing-top-ten-picks-of-nfl-drafts-part-1-2017/ https://field2court.com/2020/04/22/redoing-top-ten-picks-of-nfl-drafts-part-1-2017/#respond Wed, 22 Apr 2020 21:00:32 +0000 https://field2court.com/?p=6753 As we look upon tomorrow’s draft, let us look upon one of the best draft classes in modern era.

The 2017 NFL Draft was loaded with superstars ranging in all positions. This draft class included offensive superstars such as Christian Mcafferey, George Kittle, and Chris Godwin; but, also includes defensive pro-bowlers in Jamal Adams, Myles Garrett, and Tre’Davious White.

This re-draft will include all draft day trades. Plus, not all selections were based on skill: it depends on replicability at the position. For example, if this re-draft was purely based on skill, then close to half of the top ten picks would have been a runningback.

Now that the perameters have been set, let us re-draft:

1: Cleveland Browns: Patrick Mahomes, QB, Texas Tech

Patrick Mahomes, pictured above after winning Super Bowl LIV.

After being benched behind Alex Smith in his rookie season, Patrick Mahomes has played two star seasons for the Kansas City Chiefs. In this timespan, Mahomes has won the NFL’s MVP award, and most recently a Super Bowl victory, to name a few of Mahomes’ many achievements. The Chiefs made what will eventually be considered as the best move in their franchise’s history by trading to the 10th pick for Mahomes, nabbing the best player in the NFL. However, in this re-draft, the Browns decide to pick Mahomes instead of star defensive end Myles Garrett.

2: Chicago Bears: Myles Garrett, DE, Texas A&M

While Garrett’s season was cut short due to his incident involving Mason Rudolph in a regular season game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, let that not undercut Garrett’s talent. Garrett was more than well-deserving of the first-overall pick, but having the generational talent in Mahomes forces Garrett to move down a spot. The only reason I do not have Deshaun Watson landing here is because I think the Bears stick with Mike Glennon after signing him to a ridiculously large deal that offseason.

3: San Fransisco 49ers: George Kittle, TE, Iowa

While we all like to think of the Niners defense as formidable, it was not thanks to the likes of Soloman Thomas. But, that does not mean the Niners did this draft wrong, as they selected George Kittle in the fifth round. In this redraft, the Niners decide to select Kittle with their first round pick, and wait until the later rounds before even considering Thomas. Kittle has been an unstoppable force ever since being drafted into the league. At this point in time, the Niners have many holes, including quarterback, but they wait to get a quarterback until trading for Jimmy Garropolo. Kittle provides their team a dynamic blocker as well as a receiving threat that will scare defenses for weeks to come.

4: Jacksonville Jaguars: Christian Mccaffrey, HB, Stanford

The Jaguars initially selected Leanard Fournette at this spot. While I think this was a great fit, I believe that the Jaguars could have gone with a better running back. With uncertainty with Blake Bortles at quarterback, Mccaffrey will be playing in a nearly identical situation to the one he is currently in with the Panthers. Overall, CMC is a much better fit with this squad then Fournette is.

5: Tennessee Titans: T.J. Watt, EDGE, Wisconsin

Watt has improved in every season he has played, and has become a Defensive Player of the Year candidate with the Steelers. The Titans went with Corey Davis with this pick, which proved to be bust-worthy, especially now that they have a run-dominated offense with Derrick Henry. The Titans in this redraft go with defense, deciding between Jamal Adams and Watt. They eventually go with Watt, showing that they are confident in their safety group that is lead by Kevin Byard.

6: New York Jets: Jamal Adams, S, LSU

It is not often that in a redraft, a team goes with the same guy they went with in the actual draft. Even though there is uncertainty in his future with the Jets this offseason, the smart move is to keep their pick with Adams going at 6.

7: Los Angeles Chargers: Chris Godwin, WR, Penn State

While this may seem as a surprise to many, I think that the Chargers picking Godwin would be perfect. They initially went with Mike Williams, who they had hoped would provide Philip Rivers with a solid WR2 option. This would have spread the field more, allowing their star WR Keenan Allen and TE Hunter Henry to have more open space, creating more big plays. Williams has been a good pick, posting solid numbers when healthy. But, in comparison to Godwin’s breakout season, Williams stands no match. Chargers stick with a wideout here.

8: Carolina Panthers: Marlon Humphrey, CB, Alabama

Ever since the departure of Josh Norman and the rest of the core 15-1 Panther squad, the defense has been lacking in overall talent in exception to newly retired LB Luke Kuechly. This class features many great cornerbacks, including Tre’Davious White, and Marshon Lattimore. But, I am going with Humphrey. Since 2017, Humphrey has been hawking every pass thrown to him down, breaking up 47 passes, ranking fourth since he was drafted into the league.

9: Cincinnati Bengals: Tre’Davious White, CB, LSU

Like I mentioned in the previous selection, this class is loaded with studs at cornerback. The Bengals in the actual draft went with John Ross, going for a speedy wideout to be opposite to AJ Green. Ross has been plagued with injuries, making him not worthy of this selection. The Bengals secondary has been abysmal at best, so they take Pro-Bowl cornerback White at this pick. However, this Bengals team is still far from where they have to be, and even with the selection of White, I would still see the Bengals winding up with the first pick in tomorrow’s draft.

10: Kansas City Chiefs: Deshaun Watson, QB, Clemson

Those that are reading this, I know you are confused. The Chiefs trading to this pick for the fundamental purpose of drafting Patrick Mahomes. That is true. But, they still believe that they have their guy in Watson. While Watson might not be at the same level as Mahomes, Watson would play perfect to this speedy team. Andy Reid would style a playbook that would revolve lots of play-action, screens to both running backs and wide receivers, and QB runs, similar to the current Chiefs playbook. In my mind, this would be a no-brainer trade the Chiefs make to pick Watson.

Patriots 2020 NFL Draft Predictions https://field2court.com/2020/04/22/patriots-2020-nfl-draft-predictions/ https://field2court.com/2020/04/22/patriots-2020-nfl-draft-predictions/#respond Wed, 22 Apr 2020 04:59:44 +0000 https://field2court.com/?p=6701
Rounds 1-4 are discussed, but the full mock draft is at the end of this article.

This years NFL draft is an unusual one. The COVID-19 outbreak is at it’s peak, so commissioner Roger Goodell was forced to think quickly to help stop the spread of this deadly virus. He decided to move the draft into his basement at his house so he did not have to postpone the event. With the draft now 1 day away it is time to begin speculation of what the Patriots might end up doing on Thursday-Sunday.

It is no secret that the New England Patriots and Bill Belichick in recent years have not had the best luck when drafting early round studs. Coming into this draft they are desperately in need of a WR, TE, and edge. What I want the Patriots to do is different than what I expect them to do come Thursday. Experts say that this years NFL draft has the best WR class in recent years which is why I want the Patriots to take advantage of this class. I would like to see the Patriots make a move to trade up in the 1st round with the Cowboys to get the #17 pick. Justin Jefferson is a name I’ve seen floating around recently connected with the Eagles who have the #21 pick. If the Patriots traded with the Cowboys for the #17 pick, chances are Jefferson will still be on the board when we select. I do not see this happening because if you look at our current WR situation with Mohamed Sanu, Julian Edelman, N’keal Harry they all played through injuries so I do not believe the Patriots exactly NEED a receiver that early, instead what I believe will happen is the Patriots end up staying put at pick #23, and select Iowa product Aj Epenesa who had 11.5 sacks last season.

The Patriots franchise tagged Left Guard Joe Thuney back in March, which began speculation of whether or not the Patriots were going to hold onto him or trade him for picks. With Joe Thuney reportedly nowhere close to a deal with the Patriots it is time to make a move. The Patriots currently do not have a second round pick because they traded it away to the Falcons back in October in order to acquire WR Mohamed Sanu. Many NFL experts believe that the Patriots will trade him to the Bears for the 50th overall pick, but I personally think the Lions could budge if offered a 3rd or 4th round pick as well as Thuney since they are infamous for signing/trading for Patriots talent the last few years. If the Patriots were to trade with the Lions, I could see LB Kenneth Murray still possibly being on the board when they select. If the speculation is correct, and the Bears and Patriots come to an agreement on a trade, I can see the Patriots taking Notre Dame TE product, Cole Kmet.

The 3rd round is my favorite round to predict this year because of how many picks the Patriots have in this round. They are in possession of pick #87 #98, and #100. I can see the Patriots either trading up and selecting Jalen Hurts or staying put and drafting Jacob Eason. It is important that the Patriots give QB Jarrett Stidham some young competition to keep him more motivated. With pick #98, I have the Patriots selecting another tight end, but this time Thaddeus Moss out of LSU. If the last name sounds familiar, he is indeed the son of former Patriot, and all time great Randy Moss. With pick #100 I can see us selecting Antonie Winfield, safety out of Minnesota.

The last round I will discuss is the 4th round. With news breaking on Tuesday that the Patriots have traded Rob Gronkowski to the Bucs, it gave them another 4th round pick to work with in this years NFL draft. In this round they have newly acquired pick #137 along with pick #125. With their 125th pick the Patriots will select WR K.J Hill out of Ohio State. Hill is an exceptional route runner, who knows how to get open. Hill has 2nd round talents, but with a WR class so deep many experts see him falling to the 4th round. Finally with pick #137 I have the Patriots selecting OG, Solomon Kindley out of Georgia.

Round 1 (23): A.J Epenesa, EDGE, Iowa

Round 2 Via Bears (50): Cole Kmet, TE, Notre Dame

Round 3 (87): Jacob Eason, QB, Georgia

Round 3 compensatory selection (98): Thaddeus Moss, TE, LSU

Round 3 compensatory selection (100): Antonie Winfield, Safety, Minnesota

Round 4 via Bears (125): K.J Hill, WR, Ohio State

Round 4 via Bucs (137): Solomon Kindley, OG, Georgia

Round 5 via Lions (172): David Woodyard, LB, Utah State

Round 6 via Broncos (195): Richie Grant, Safety, UCF

Round 6 via Texans (204): Dane Jackson, CB, Pittsburgh

Round 6 compensatory selection (212): Michael Divinity, LB, LSU

Round 6 compensatory selection (213): Trystan Colon-Castillo, Center, Missouri

Round 7 via Falcons (230): Kindle Vildor, CB, Georgia Southern

Round 7 via Seahawks (241): Mykal Walker, LB, Fresno State

Gronk & Brady reunited? https://field2court.com/2020/04/21/gronk-brady-reunited/ https://field2court.com/2020/04/21/gronk-brady-reunited/#respond Tue, 21 Apr 2020 21:38:26 +0000 https://field2court.com/?p=6681

Ian Rapoport tweeted out Tuesday afternoon that Gronk informed the Patriots that he wanted to play Football again, but for the Bucs. Not even an hour after this tweet first surfaced over social media, word came out that the two teams have agreed on a deal.

The Bucs had the higher ground in terms of negotiations because of Rob Gronkowski’s contract status. A lot of wishful thinking Patriot fans felt as if the Patriots could have gotten more in this trade including myself at first. The more I thought about it, the more I started to make sense of the whole trade. Rob Gronkowski has not played Football for over a year, and has not been very lucky when it comes to injuries. It was either Gronk stays retired and we get nothing or we agree to trade him, and get a pick.

The Patriots might now have to look towards the NFL draft that begins in 2 days to find their future tight end with the current Patriot tight ends being Matt LaCosse, and Ryan Izzo. I do not see the Bucs trading O.J Howard even with the addition of Gronk. The Bucs did not know how to use Howard properly before they signed Brady back in March, but everyone knows TB12 knows how to get the best out of his players. Brady has always done exceptionally well using multiple tight ends on the same play. Now with an offense that consists of Tom Brady, Rob Gronkowski, O.J Howard, Mike Evans, and Chris Godwin.. It looks like the Bucs are the team to beat this year in the NFC.

Tom Brady Won’t Return to New England https://field2court.com/2020/03/18/tom-brady-wont-return-to-new-england/ https://field2court.com/2020/03/18/tom-brady-wont-return-to-new-england/#respond Wed, 18 Mar 2020 02:26:54 +0000 https://field2court.com/?p=42 Tom Brady, arguably the greatest quarterback in the history of the NFL announced that he will not spend the 2020-2021 NFL season with the New England Patriots.

Brady and Belichick had incredible success over their 20 years together but sources say their relationship was not nearly as strong in 2019 as it had once been.

Bleacher Report reported early Tuesday morning that the Patriots did not make an effort to Re-Sign Brady, and Brady had no problem looking for a contract elsewhere. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Los Angeles Chargers are the most likely destinations for the quarterback.

This development has immense implications for the legacies of both Tom Brady and Bill Belichick. If Tom Brady wins a Super Bowl with another team, he will easily cement his status as the greatest football player of all time. On the contrary, if the Patriots win a Super Bowl with a new Quarterback, Brady‘s legacy will take a hit.

Patriots: Re-sign or Let Go https://field2court.com/2020/03/03/patriots-re-sign-or-let-go/ https://field2court.com/2020/03/03/patriots-re-sign-or-let-go/#respond Tue, 03 Mar 2020 02:54:19 +0000 http://patriots-re-sign-or-let-go My Resign or Let Go for the New England Patriots free agents. Keep in mind, this was a series I posted, so the first player’s analysis won’t be as good as the last player’s analysis

Tom Brady:

My opinion-Resign for 2 years. Let him play out the rest of his career here, and get him to teach the younger QBs.

My Prediction-We resign for 2 years.

Jamie Collins:

My opinion- Well this one is kinda complicated. It really depends on what Jamie Collins wants, and what other teams will give him. If we can get him for 1-2 years, $8-10 million a year would be good. If he won’t do that, I’d say we let him go.

What I think will happen-I honestly doubt that Jamie Collins will be on this team next year. He is a great player, and a core piece of this defense, but I’m really not sure if we will give him the money that he will likely want/money that other teams will give him.

Marshall Newhouse:

My opinion: Let Go!!!! I don’t have much to say besides this man couldn’t do anything in the pre season, when he was playing 4th stringers. He just lets the DE walk by him.

What I think we will do: Let Go. This one is close. Newhouse is a depth piece that Bill may like to keep, although I wouldn’t 😂 Newhouse could stay, but I think we will end up letting him go.

Joe Thuney:

My Opinion: Resign.

Joe Thuney is very good. He should be somebody close to the top of our free agent list. He led our offensive line this year, and is due for a big contract. I think it may be smart to franchise tag him for now, and give him a big contract next year. Thuney has done great in his entire career, especially last year.

What I think we will do: Let Go.

Thuney is going to need money this year. Not 5 million. Not 10. Probably not 15. Teams will offer him 15-17 million or more. He is going to cost too much for us to resign. Although I think we want to keep him, I don’t think they are going to be able to.

Phillip Dorsett:

My opinion: Let Go.

Phillip Dorsett is the definition of meh. Makes some plays, but barely does anything. Although he is one of the fastest players in the league, he never uses his speed to his advantage. He tries to use other ways to get open, which don’t work for him. Unless he starts to use his speed to his advantage, I’m not sure if I want him on this team.

What I think we will do: Resign 1 year.

We may let him walk, we may even resign him for 3 years. But I don’t see us keeping Dorsett for long. He is not very good, and I think we will keep him next year as a depth piece. I could see us letting him go, but I think he will have a similar contract as this year

Danny Shelton:

My Opinion: Resign.

Danny Shelton had a great season this year. We resigned him for a year last year, and I don’t think we expected much to happen. Shelton finally boomed in NE and was able to stop QBs for throwing, and stop running backs from running all over our defense. Shelton made it so the other team couldn’t create holes to run in. Overall, he had a great season and I think we should keep him.

What I think we will do: Resign for 2 years.

I think Bill Belichick likes Danny Shelton. He clogs the middle. He does his job. He stays quiet. He doesn’t go around tweeting and saying stuff on Instagram. He works hard, and does his job. I think he plays and practices how Bill eamts his players to. Not only that, but he has done a job that the Patriots haven’t been able to do since they had Vince Wilfork. Shelton was able to clog the middle and have a great season. This is why I think the Pats will try to keep him

Devin McCourty:

What I want us to do: Resign.

Dmac has always been a top tier safety in the league. He is a key anchor of our secondary, defense, and whole team. He is always a captain, and a clear leader of the team. We should resign him for a year, as he will probably retire after next season.

What I think we will do: Resign.

This one is honestly pretty hard. The Patriots are known to walk away from veterans that have been a key part of the team if they cost too much. One of the most notable players that happened to was Vince Wilfork. I wouldn’t be too surprised if we don’t resign Dmac. I could see him going to NYG with Joe Judge. However, I think he will stay with us, and his twin brother, staying in NE

Matthew Slater:

My opinion: Resign.

There is no other Slater in the league. He is a team leader, and the true definition of a Patriot. He always leads the team, on the field and off. Not only that, but he is a 5x First Team All Pro winner, a 1x Second Team All Pro winner, and a 8x Pro Bowler. Slate has always been the most important part of our incredible special teams unit, which is why I think we should keep him.

What I think we will do: Resign.

Like I said, this man is a leader, and a great player. Plus, Bill Belichick has always loved his special teamers. Slater has shown how important he is to the team, both as a leader and player. That’s why I believe we should, and will, keep Matthew Slater.

Adam Butler:

What I want us to do: Resign

Adam Butler has a great year last season. He plugged the middle and did a great job with Danny Shelton. It would be ideal if we could get both of them back, and keep plugging the middle. I think next year Butler will do great and breakout, even if he isn’t on the team. It would be great if we could get him back for a year or 2, or maybe even franchise tag him.

What I think we will do: Let Go.

Butler is very good, but I’m not sure if he will stay. We can resign Danny Shelton for cheaper, and there is a good chance Butler could get a much better contract somewhere else. Although I would like to keep Adam Butler, I would not be surprised to see him go in free agency 😔

Elandon Roberts:

What I want to happen: Resign

Roberts had a great season this year. He had his best linebacking season, and was able to fill in at fullback. He would be an incredibly useful piece to be able to have back, especially because there was a report coming out from Ben Volin saying that Develin may retire.

What I think we will do: Resign.

Roberts had a good season this year, and was a good leader and captain. He moved around from playing linebacker to fullback. That is the type of versatility that Bill Belichick likes. Roberts was able to move around, and do stuff that he was not used to. However it worked, and he did good at linebacker, and fullback. That is why I think we will resign him

Patriots: Keys To The Wild Card Game https://field2court.com/2020/01/03/patriots-keys-to-the-wild-card-game/ https://field2court.com/2020/01/03/patriots-keys-to-the-wild-card-game/#respond Fri, 03 Jan 2020 01:54:30 +0000 http://patriots-keys-to-the-wild-card-game As the regular season has commenced, Wild Card weekend is upon us. The Patriots will be facing the Titans, a very underrated team. This week will be very hard. The Titans are a very legit team who I think can (and will) beat us. Here are my thoughts about who will have to step up, and what will we have to do to beat Tennessee.

#1: Stop Derrick Henry

Easier said than done. Our run defense is not very good. Derrick Henry is coming out of possibly the best game of his career. On the ground, he had 211 yards, 3 TDs, and averaged 6.6 yards per carry! Those are incredible stats that not many RBs can put up. We need to be able to stop him, or else this game will be an easy win for the Titans.

#2: We Need to Run the Ball. Because For Some Reason We Don’t. (Or for short, WNTRTB.BFSRWD)

Our pass game this year has not been good. At all. Our run game has been the exact opposite though, and for the last few games, it has been clicking. We need to use James White, Sony Michel, and Rex Burkhead to run all over the Titans defense. This game should be very run heavy for both teams.

#3: Big Men Gotta Have a Big Game

Lawrence Guy and Danny Shelton gotta have a big game. They gotta clog up the middle so Derrick Henry doesn’t have a big game. We have to clog up the middle with our big guys. If we don’t, Derrick Henry is gonna have a field day.

#4: Brady Must Step Up

The GOAT has to play good if we want a chance to win. Just make smart decisions and good throws. If TB12 can have a good day, this team can win. A 300 yard, 2-3 passing TD, 0 INT day would be an ideal statline.

Patriots Week 15 Player Grades https://field2court.com/2019/12/19/patriots-week-15-player-grades/ https://field2court.com/2019/12/19/patriots-week-15-player-grades/#respond Thu, 19 Dec 2019 00:04:33 +0000 http://patriots-week-16-player-grades

Tom Brady- B-

Not a great game for Tom, but he didn’t play terrible. He had a few TDs, and a few great throws. He was able to extend the play on the N’keal Harry TD. Overall, a pretty decent game for the GOAT, although he has been better.

N’keal Harry- A-

Great game for the kid. He was able to get open on his touchdown, and made a spectacular catch to get that touchdown. He also had a great catch on a long bomb, but the play was whistled dead before the snap. Although the stats don’t show it, he played great (And it’s also his birthday, so Happy Birthday!)

Rex Burkhead- A-

Although he barely had any snaps, he had a few late in the game. In those snaps he made the most of them. He had the longest rush of his career (which also went for a TD) and really showed us a glimpse of what he may be able to do.

Offense- B+

Our offense didn’t play great, but it showed some sparks. There were some big plays, but we also have to remember it was against the Bengals. Either way, it was a solid game for the offense.

Stephon Gilmore- A++++

Allowed 2 receptions on 6 targets, and 31 routes. 2 interceptions. 2 PBUs. 1 Pick-six. 15.8 Passer Rating when targeted. Must I say more?

JC Jackson- A

Great game for JC. 2 nterceptions that were perfectly timed. Overall a great way to snap a 2 game losing streak.

Danny Shelton- B+

He had a great game, and was able to stop the run game. Nobody could get past Mr. Lavalava. The brick wall of a man was able to really stuff the run game when it came up the middle.

Defense- A

We were sloppy at first, but we got better quickly. We let up 10 points in the first quarter, but after that we let up just 3 points for the rest of the game! (4th quarter). Great defensive game.

Gunner Olszewski- A+

He didn’t play, because he is on IR. But he would’ve played great if he did.
