The 2017 NFL Draft was loaded with superstars ranging in all positions. This draft class included offensive superstars such as Christian Mcafferey, George Kittle, and Chris Godwin; but, also includes defensive pro-bowlers in Jamal Adams, Myles Garrett, and Tre’Davious White.

This re-draft will include all draft day trades. Plus, not all selections were based on skill: it depends on replicability at the position. For example, if this re-draft was purely based on skill, then close to half of the top ten picks would have been a runningback.

Now that the perameters have been set, let us re-draft:

1: Cleveland Browns: Patrick Mahomes, QB, Texas Tech

Patrick Mahomes, pictured above after winning Super Bowl LIV.

After being benched behind Alex Smith in his rookie season, Patrick Mahomes has played two star seasons for the Kansas City Chiefs. In this timespan, Mahomes has won the NFL’s MVP award, and most recently a Super Bowl victory, to name a few of Mahomes’ many achievements. The Chiefs made what will eventually be considered as the best move in their franchise’s history by trading to the 10th pick for Mahomes, nabbing the best player in the NFL. However, in this re-draft, the Browns decide to pick Mahomes instead of star defensive end Myles Garrett.

2: Chicago Bears: Myles Garrett, DE, Texas A&M

While Garrett’s season was cut short due to his incident involving Mason Rudolph in a regular season game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, let that not undercut Garrett’s talent. Garrett was more than well-deserving of the first-overall pick, but having the generational talent in Mahomes forces Garrett to move down a spot. The only reason I do not have Deshaun Watson landing here is because I think the Bears stick with Mike Glennon after signing him to a ridiculously large deal that offseason.

3: San Fransisco 49ers: George Kittle, TE, Iowa

While we all like to think of the Niners defense as formidable, it was not thanks to the likes of Soloman Thomas. But, that does not mean the Niners did this draft wrong, as they selected George Kittle in the fifth round. In this redraft, the Niners decide to select Kittle with their first round pick, and wait until the later rounds before even considering Thomas. Kittle has been an unstoppable force ever since being drafted into the league. At this point in time, the Niners have many holes, including quarterback, but they wait to get a quarterback until trading for Jimmy Garropolo. Kittle provides their team a dynamic blocker as well as a receiving threat that will scare defenses for weeks to come.

4: Jacksonville Jaguars: Christian Mccaffrey, HB, Stanford

The Jaguars initially selected Leanard Fournette at this spot. While I think this was a great fit, I believe that the Jaguars could have gone with a better running back. With uncertainty with Blake Bortles at quarterback, Mccaffrey will be playing in a nearly identical situation to the one he is currently in with the Panthers. Overall, CMC is a much better fit with this squad then Fournette is.

5: Tennessee Titans: T.J. Watt, EDGE, Wisconsin

Watt has improved in every season he has played, and has become a Defensive Player of the Year candidate with the Steelers. The Titans went with Corey Davis with this pick, which proved to be bust-worthy, especially now that they have a run-dominated offense with Derrick Henry. The Titans in this redraft go with defense, deciding between Jamal Adams and Watt. They eventually go with Watt, showing that they are confident in their safety group that is lead by Kevin Byard.

6: New York Jets: Jamal Adams, S, LSU

It is not often that in a redraft, a team goes with the same guy they went with in the actual draft. Even though there is uncertainty in his future with the Jets this offseason, the smart move is to keep their pick with Adams going at 6.

7: Los Angeles Chargers: Chris Godwin, WR, Penn State

While this may seem as a surprise to many, I think that the Chargers picking Godwin would be perfect. They initially went with Mike Williams, who they had hoped would provide Philip Rivers with a solid WR2 option. This would have spread the field more, allowing their star WR Keenan Allen and TE Hunter Henry to have more open space, creating more big plays. Williams has been a good pick, posting solid numbers when healthy. But, in comparison to Godwin’s breakout season, Williams stands no match. Chargers stick with a wideout here.

8: Carolina Panthers: Marlon Humphrey, CB, Alabama

Ever since the departure of Josh Norman and the rest of the core 15-1 Panther squad, the defense has been lacking in overall talent in exception to newly retired LB Luke Kuechly. This class features many great cornerbacks, including Tre’Davious White, and Marshon Lattimore. But, I am going with Humphrey. Since 2017, Humphrey has been hawking every pass thrown to him down, breaking up 47 passes, ranking fourth since he was drafted into the league.

9: Cincinnati Bengals: Tre’Davious White, CB, LSU

Like I mentioned in the previous selection, this class is loaded with studs at cornerback. The Bengals in the actual draft went with John Ross, going for a speedy wideout to be opposite to AJ Green. Ross has been plagued with injuries, making him not worthy of this selection. The Bengals secondary has been abysmal at best, so they take Pro-Bowl cornerback White at this pick. However, this Bengals team is still far from where they have to be, and even with the selection of White, I would still see the Bengals winding up with the first pick in tomorrow’s draft.

10: Kansas City Chiefs: Deshaun Watson, QB, Clemson

Those that are reading this, I know you are confused. The Chiefs trading to this pick for the fundamental purpose of drafting Patrick Mahomes. That is true. But, they still believe that they have their guy in Watson. While Watson might not be at the same level as Mahomes, Watson would play perfect to this speedy team. Andy Reid would style a playbook that would revolve lots of play-action, screens to both running backs and wide receivers, and QB runs, similar to the current Chiefs playbook. In my mind, this would be a no-brainer trade the Chiefs make to pick Watson.

Chiefs and 49ers Both Get Big Wins to Advance to the Super Bowl! https://field2court.com/2020/01/20/chiefs-and-49ers-both-get-big-wins-to-advance-to-the-super-bowl/ https://field2court.com/2020/01/20/chiefs-and-49ers-both-get-big-wins-to-advance-to-the-super-bowl/#respond Mon, 20 Jan 2020 09:44:05 +0000 http://chiefs-and-49ers-both-get-big-wins-to-advance-to-the-super-bowl Let’s start with the early game. At 3:05 Eastern the Chiefs faced off with the Titans. This playoffs have been the Derrick Henry show and it continued for the 1st quarter. The Titans jumped to a 10-0 lead, after some crazy plays. Then the Chiefs answered with a Tyreek Hill jet sweep TD to cut the deficit to 3. After that, the Titans had a 9 minute drive and scored again. It was 17-7 in the 2nd quarter. Mahomes finds Tyreek for a 20 yard TD to cut the lead to 3! The Chiefs defense finally decided to show up and made a quick stop. Mahomes and crew went marching down the field and on a play with 23 seconds left, Mahomes scrambles left, breaks a tackle, does a shimmy, breaks another tackle, and and scores giving the Chiefs the lead before half. After half it was all Chiefs from there. Derrick Henry following a 188 rushing yard game and a 190 rushing yard game was held in check today. He only had 19 carries for 69 yards and a TD. Sammy Watkins lead the Chiefs in receiving as he caught a 60 yard TD to ice the game.

In the NFC we had the Niners play the Packers. These 2 faced off in week 12 and the Packers got absolutely dominated: 37-8. Well it played out the same again. The 49ers d line was just dominating all night long just like last time. They forced Aaron to fumble twice and in the back end forced 2 interceptions one my Emmanuel Mosley and 1 by Richard Sherman. Raheem Mostert was a monster today. Rushing for about 211 yards and 4 TDs. The Packers had no answers and the 49ers cruised to victory.

On February 2nd at 5:30 Central 6:30 Eastern! It should be a good one and I’m looking forward to it! If the Chiefs want to win they will have to stop the run once again and force Jimmy to throw. The 49ers will have to just clamp everyone and stop the run so it’ll be very hard for both teams and it’ll be a great game! Can’t wait!

The 5 Most Surprising 49ers This Year https://field2court.com/2020/01/04/the-5-most-surprising-49ers-this-year/ https://field2court.com/2020/01/04/the-5-most-surprising-49ers-this-year/#respond Sat, 04 Jan 2020 23:05:34 +0000 http://the-5-most-surprising-49ers-this-year 5. FS Jimmie Ward

A lot of fans didn’t like it when the 49ers re-signed FS Jimmie Ward to a one-year extension in the spring, but now it’s looking like the 49ers should have made it a multi-year extension. Previous to this season, Ward was considered a bust by many, and that’s in large part due to his long injury history. Well, this season he’s been healthy and has been playing well enough to get a Pro Bowl alternative nod. Ward put up 65 tackles and had 8 pass deflections in 13 games. Ward is set to be a Unrestricted Free Agent this spring, and re-signing him will likely be a top priority for John Lynch and company.

4. WR Deebo Samuel

As a second round pick heading into the season, Samuel had some pretty high expectations from 49ers fans, and he’s delivered. Samuel has been looking like the team’s WR1 for years to come, which is a big reason why the 49ers won the NFC West and got the 1st seed in the NFC. Samuel got off to a slow start to start off the season, but his Week 10 performance against the Seahawks on Monday Night Football is where things started to turn upwards. Samuel put up 802 yards receiving on 57 catches, along with 159 rushing yards, and totaled 6 scrimmage TD’s. Great rookie season.

3. CB Emmanuel Moseley

After CB Ahkello Witherspoon went down with a foot injury Week 3 against the Steelers, CB Emmanuel Moseley stepped in and started numerous games. Not only did Moseley step in and play, but he played extremely well. As a UDFA coming out of the 2018 draft, Moseley spent time on the 49ers Practice Squad last season, and got called up for one game then was placed on IR. This preseason, he earned a roster spot, which eventually led to a starting gig. On the season, Moseley has 43 tackles, 1 interception, and 8 pass deflections. Moseley looks like to be another late-round/undrafted gem found by John Lynch and company.

2. HB Raheem Mostert

Mostert bounced around the league early on in his career, but he has clearly found a home in San Francisco. On the season, Mostert has 772 rushing yards, 205 receiving yards, and 11 total touchdowns. Mostert started separating himself from the rest of the RB’s Week 13 at Baltimore, where he posted a career high 146 rushing yards. Coming into the season, Mostert was expected to be the team’s third HB on depth chart behind Tevin Coleman and Matt Breida. To be far, it looked that would be the case until Week 13, but Mostert just took-off and hasn’t looked back. Mostert continuing this hot streak into the playoffs will help San Francisco a bunch.

1. DE Arik Armstead

Similar to Jimmie Ward, many fans considered Armstead a bust. But also like Ward, Armstead had gone through a lot of injuries. Finally healthy, Armstead is having a career year, posting 10 sacks (7 more than last year), 54 tackles (6 more than last year), and 2 forced fumbles (only had one more in his career which was recorded in 2016). Armstead was considered the team’s 4th best defensive lineman heading into the season, but now is very possible that he is the team’s best. Armstead has been great at both getting to QB and stuffing the run. Armstead is scheduled to be an unrestricted FA this spring, and it should be interesting to see how the whole situation plays out. Armstead’s emerge has arguably been the x-factor this season.

Week 14 Edition: 49ers Stock up/Stock down https://field2court.com/2019/12/13/week-14-edition-49ers-stock-up-stock-down/ https://field2court.com/2019/12/13/week-14-edition-49ers-stock-up-stock-down/#respond Fri, 13 Dec 2019 05:19:19 +0000 http://week-14-edition-49ers-stock-up-stock-down

Stock Up:

1. HB Raheem Mostert

After we saw a career day at Baltimore in Week 13, Mostert put up another great performance Week 14 against the Saints. Mostert totaled 109 scrimmage yards and 2 scores on just 12 touches. One of those touchdowns was one through the air on a trick play where WR Emmanuel Sanders threw the ball. Mostert is starting to look more like a RB1, which will help the 49ers down the rest of the regular season and playoff stretch.

2. WR Kendrick Bourne

Kendrick Bourne was a big time red-zone threat on Sunday. Bourne recorded 18 receiving yards and two touchdowns on 3 catches. Bourne doesn’t get too many targets, but when he does get targeted, he catches it. Many fans were mad with Bourne after the Monday night loss at Seattle, in a game where he dropped multiple balls. However, Bourne has stepped his game up big time since then, and is now Garoppolo’s top red-zone target. HC Kyle Shanahan has been impressed with Bourne, and has said that him, Emmanuel Sanders, and Deebo Samuel have separated themselves from the rest of the wide receivers.

3. DT D.J. Jones

On Wednesday, HC Kyle Shanahan said that it was likely that D.J. Jones will miss the rest of the season with an ankle injury. This is a huge loss for this 49ers defense, as Jones was arguably the best run stuffer on the d-line. On Sunday, Jones had just 2 tackles, but also a forced fumble, which really changed the momentum of the game. After the drive after the fumble forced by Jones, the 49ers scored offensively. Jones will be missed, but his emergence on this defense will help the team for the future.

Stock Down:

1. SS Marcell Harris

Marcell Harris started his first game of the season on Sunday with Jaquiski Tartt (ribs) out, and did not play well. Although he recorded 6 tackles, he also missed a lot more and was not that good in coverage. Harris is a spectacular special teams player, but i’m not sure he’s ready to be starting on defense quite yet. We weren’t show how much the 49ers need Jaquiski Tartt back in that secondary until Sunday, and now we know that they need him back badly.

2. HB Tevin Coleman

Tevin Coleman hasn’t been used much in the past couple of weeks, recording just 9 touches (8 rushes, 1 catch). Most of this is just due to the emergence of Raheem Mostert, but Tevin Coleman is going to have to bounce-back soon to give the 49ers that extra shifty back in the backfield. With the 49ers playing Coleman’s former team this week, the Falcons, it’s very easy to see Coleman having a bounce-back game. If Coleman can start playing again like he did around the mid-season, then that just gives the 49ers another dynamic playmaker on the offensive side of the ball.

3. LB Azeez Al-Shaair

Al-Shaair has been struggling quite a bit all season. For an undrafted rookie I guess you can expect that, but as a starter on defense, you have to be smarter. Al-Shaair didn’t record a single tackle on Sunday, and struggled in coverage as well. Of course, Al-Shaair is only playing because of the injury due to LB Kwon Alexander, which he suffered on Halloween in the TNF win against the Cardinals. Al-Shaair is going to need to improve if he wants to keep his starting job. If not, it’s a very realistic possibility to see the team replacing him with either Elijah Lee or Mark Nzecoha.

5. HB Raheem Mostert

Last week, we saw Raheem Mostert have a monster day on the ground, totaling 146 yards and a touchdown on nineteen carries. Mostert had the best day of his career, which led to Tevin Coleman losing snaps. With no Matt Breida heading into the game, Tevin Coleman was expected to receive the majority of carries, although he received just five. With Matt Breida expected to return Sunday against the Saints, it should be interesting to see how Mostert is used coming off of his outstanding performance in Baltimore.

4. SS Marcell Harris

With Jaquiski Tartt likely out on Sunday, second year strong safety Marcell Harris will likely make his first start of the season on Sunday. When Tartt went down last Sunday due to a rib injury, Marcell Harris came in and played well. Harris recorded 4 tackles and a fumble strip of potential MVP QB Lamar Jackson. Harris has shown some potential, and against the Saints’ elite passing offense, we will get to see what Harris is made out of.

3. Nick Bosa

Nick Bosa has been rather quiet in recent weeks when it comes to sacking the QB. He’s still consistently getting to the QB, but he’s been struggling to get them down. I don’t see it as a big problem, especially considering that some of the QB’s Bosa has gone up against are extremely mobile (Jackson, Murray (2x), Wilson). However, especially considering that Saints LT Terron Armstead may miss Sunday’s game due to an ankle injury, Bosa could have a big bounce back game. Brees isn’t mobile whatsoever, so it’s gonna be a lot easier for Bosa to get to the QB.

2. Deebo Samuel

Deebo Samuel has been on fire as of late. In his last 4 games, Samuel has recorded 20 catches, 337 receiving yards, and 2 receiving TD’s. With Saints start CB Marshon Lattimore to likely shadow Emmanuel Sanders most of the game, Deebo Samuel may have to be Garoppolo’s WR1. Samuel has shown that he’s capable of this in recent weeks, but the Saints secondary is still talented outside of Lattimore with the likes of Eli Apple and P.J. Williams. It’s very likely that Samuel is going to have to play well in order for the passing game to thrive.

1. Richard Sherman

Richard Sherman will be guarding the best WR in the NFL on Sunday in Michael Thomas, who leads the NFL in receiving yards with 1,290 yards. This will easily be Sherman’s biggest test of the year, and it should be exciting to watch two of some of the best players at their respected positions go at it on Sunday. If Thomas gets going, it is going to be extremely hard to attempt and slow him down again. It’s also notable that Sherman has been dealing with a little bit of a knee injury, but he is expected to play Sunday.
