Jorge Alfaro Injury Note https://field2court.com/2020/02/27/jorge-alfaro-injury-note/ https://field2court.com/2020/02/27/jorge-alfaro-injury-note/#respond Thu, 27 Feb 2020 23:13:47 +0000 http://jorge-alfaro-injury-note

Jorge Alfaro was supposed to start Thursday’s contest against the Mets but ended up being a scratch due to left oblique tightness according to Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald.

Alfaro is being listed as day-to-day even though any type of oblique issue is a concern. Alfaro is not being sent for an MRI but he will be monitored to see if further issues occur.

Jorge Alfaro last season hit .262/.312/.425 with 18 home runs and 57 RBI’s. Despite having a 1.0 WAR and having average blocking and framing numbers, Alfaro is Miami’s guy.

If Alfaro’s injury becomes serious, they have Francisco Cervelli and Chad Wallach to look upon. Francisco Cervelli was signed by the Marlins this off season and Wallach looks to stay healthy after only appearing in 48 at bats due to a concussion.

Marlins sign Brad Boxberger, make Sean Rodriguez signing official. https://field2court.com/2020/02/14/marlins-sign-brad-boxberger-make-sean-rodriguez-signing-official/ https://field2court.com/2020/02/14/marlins-sign-brad-boxberger-make-sean-rodriguez-signing-official/#respond Fri, 14 Feb 2020 02:12:41 +0000 http://marlins-sign-brad-boxberger-make-sean-rodriguez-signing-official The Marlins today signed right-handed pitcher Brad Boxberger to a minor league deal that includes an invite to spring training.

The 31 year old veteran has played for four teams in his eight years. Boxberger last year had a 1/3 record with an ERA of 5.40 in 26.2 inning. The veteran is looking for a bounce back season with the Marlins.

In 2016, Boxberger started to struggle in his third season as he posted a 4.71 ERA in 24.1 innings. Ever since, he has not looked the same.

The Marlins also made the signing of Sean Rodriguez official. Rodriguez played every position last season except Catcher last season with the Philadelphia Phillies. In 112 at bats, he managed to bat .223 with four home runs and 12 RBI’s.

With both of these signings, the Marlins are proving to add more depth to the weaker positions. If Brad Boxberger can bounce back, he could be a late bullpen player added before the start of the season or sometime during the regular season. Sean Rodriguez brings depth to every position and is a guy that can start or come off the bench to pinch hit.
