Virtually nobody knew his name. And in two weeks on the Eagles roster, people are already talking about how big this guy can get. I will be sharing my thoughts on how Travis Fulgham could pan out.

Firstly, let’s look at if he has the talent to do so. I think the question should have the various obvious answer of “yes”, but let’s look at it deeper. In 2019, the Eagles drafted JJ Arcega-Whiteside in the Second Round of the NFL draft. You do not simply go in the second round if there isn’t some sort of NFL level talent there. They saw something in JJ. But Fulgham, he has already surpassed Arcega-Whiteside’s career catch and receiving totals as well as touchdown totals. He is just finding ways to get open, and that takes real skill, that even our second-round pick from last year does not have. You can already see Fulgham has tremendous potential.

Second, let’s look at what he’s actually done in Philadelphia so far. Everybody can have star potential, but can he back it up? In Fulgham’s first game as an Eagle, he caught 2 passes for 57 yards and a clutch deep touchdown to win the game. This was achieved when he beat near-perfect coverage and caught a perfect pass from Carson Wentz. In the next game against the Steelers secondary, who many consider being elite, Fulgham put up a tremendous 10 catch, 152 yards, 1 touchdown performance, only the third player this season to do so, and the best game for an Eagles receiver since the beginning of last year. If you would say he hasn’t proven himself when he’s had the chance, you’d be silly, but next let’s talk about how he can perform going forward.

I think we all realize that Fulgham cannot keep this pace up. The film has always been a killer for fluke performances. Teams will plan to take away Fulgham’s use. Will they be able to do so with Zach Ertz also being double-teamed? I don’t know. But you can certainly deeply study how Fulgham plays and take him out of the equation. I’m unsure if he has the talent to overcome this. However, he could, and Fulgham should provide hope for Eagles fans for this year.

Why Jalen Hurts Should Start if Wentz Continues to Struggle https://field2court.com/2020/09/21/why-jalen-hurts-should-start-if-wentz-continues-to-struggle/ https://field2court.com/2020/09/21/why-jalen-hurts-should-start-if-wentz-continues-to-struggle/#respond Mon, 21 Sep 2020 13:28:02 +0000 https://field2court.com/?p=10125 After two awful performances by Carson Wentz to start the year, many fans have called for Jalen Hurts, the rookie backup, to start at Quarterback. It may be an overreaction, but it could turn out to be very beneficial for the Eagles.

First of all, Jalen Hurts has charisma and swag that is almost unmatched. You can tell the man has the personality of an absolute star. I have no doubt he can get the team believing in him and elevate the team to another level. And I’m sure, behind the scenes, he already has confidants that want him to take the starting job.

Another reason Jalen Hurts should be looked at is the recent success and invention of the African American Mobile Quarterback. Race has nothing to do with it, but looking at the league, the switch to this dynamic form of player has paid off big time. Prime examples, Patrick Mahomes and Lamar Jackson. They replaced the safe but effective predecessors in their organization with dynamic play that lit the league on fire. I do not believe Jalen Hurts has that talent level, but he can easily be the Deshaun Watson level quarterback that Carson Wentz is when he stays consistent. The only question is, can he? Carson Wentz has been relegated to a game manager in every sense of the word by a coaching staff that does not understand or believe in him. Carson Wentz should be a top 5 quarterback. But he just isn’t. Be that a matter of coaching or his own fault, I think it’s a little bit of both. Jalen Hurts is a fresh new face, that yes, will have to overcome the same bad coaching staff, but may have the dynamic style needed to light the league up.

In conclusion, if the struggles of Carson Wentz and his coaches continues, Jalen Hurts is a good option to test to see if they could have the next perennial MVP candidate.

Game By Game Eagles Record Predictions https://field2court.com/2020/08/28/game-by-game-eagles-record-predictions/ https://field2court.com/2020/08/28/game-by-game-eagles-record-predictions/#respond Fri, 28 Aug 2020 14:20:00 +0000 https://field2court.com/?p=9824 The Eagles are expected to have a big bounce-back season this year. Do I buy it? No. Here are my 2020 Eagles predictions.

Week 1, Washington Football Team, W

The Eagles will pick up a win against the Redskins in Week 1. Quite simply, Washington is a bad football team. I think this game will absolutely be competitive, but I don’t see the Eagles choking here. But the season could get an ugly start if they do decide to lose.

Week 2, Los Angeles Rams, L

The Rams are a massively underrated team for 2020. Jared Goff can play well at times and their receiving core is very good. Their defense also has two elite playmakers in Aaron Donald and Jalen Ramsey. The Rams have a lot to prove to doubters in 2020 and I believe they begin that with a statement win over Philadelphia in Week 2. Again, a competitive game, but will ultimately go down as a loss.

Week 3, Cincinnati Bengals, L

The Bengals are simply not a good team. And Joe Burrow will not have a good year. But the Eagles have a history of playing down to competition and losing what should be blowout wins in a spectacular fashion. I see them underestimating the Bengals offense and getting shocked at home. Eagles have a 1-2 start to the year.

Week 4, San Francisco 49ers, W

With 2 losses already tallied, the Eagles pick up an essential win to their season in Santa Clara. Falling to 1-3 would be a disastrous outcome, and I don’t see them doing this. Jimmy Garoppolo realistically will have a pretty good game, but the Eagles will find a way to win this game with a good offensive performance.

Week 5, Pittsburgh Steelers, L

This prediction could change with time. If Ben Roethlisberger is still a good thrower, this game will be a loss. I think he will at least be competent, but the Steelers defense is what shines. Carson Wentz will not have a great game and the Eagles will not put up many points.

Week 6, Baltimore Ravens, L

Lamar Jackson will simply have a field day against our defense, who has a history of dreadful performance against mobile quarterbacks. Lamar Jackson may be the most mobile in NFL history, this will be a blood bath. While many think the Eagles could pull this off, I don’t see it.

Week 7, New York Giants, W

The Giants are not a bad team by any stretch of the imagination, but they have always had bad luck against the Eagles for almost all of the 2010s. In Week 7, the Eagles will win a close game against the Giants to put their season record at 3-4.

Week 8, Dallas Cowboys, L

While many Eagles fans want to sweep Dallas, it will not happen. The Cowboys are an energized team that will shock the league. The Eagles will be embarrassed at home here. Season record stands 3-5.

Week 10, New York Giants, W

The Eagles again will beat the Giants in Week 10 coming off the bye. Nothing much to say. It will be competitive.

Week 11, Cleveland Browns, W

The Eagles even up their season record with a contested win over the Cleveland Browns. The Browns could be good this year, but with the season on the line, the Eagles will do whatever it takes to push forward. They pick up a win to reach 5-5 on the year.

Week 12, Seattle Seahawks, L

Russell Wilson has never lost to the Eagles. Enough said. I predict this will be a low scoring affair where the Seahawks beat the Eagles, putting their season record at 5-6 and a playoff spot in jeopardy.

Week 13, Green Bay Packers, W

The Packers will not be an amazing team in 2020. They will not win nearly every one score game again and will be average. The game will for sure be close but I have the Eagles winning to be 6-6

Week 14, New Orleans Saints, L

The Eagles will lose to the Saints in a close affair in Week 14 to become 6-7. Saints games are always brutal for Philly and I doubt it changes. Playoff spot is in jeopardy with one more loss.

Week 15, Arizona Cardinals, W

I still don’t buy the Cardinals as a legitimate playoff contender or Kyler Murray as an MVP candidate. But the Eagles can make anyone look like one, and Kyler will. The Eagles can win against a bad Arizona defense but it will be a nail biter. 7-7.

Week 16, Dallas Cowboys, W

The Eagles need to beat the Cowboys to have hope at playoffs, and they will in week 16. The Eagles cannot afford to lose and Doug Pederson has been good in those types of games.

Week 17, Washington Football Team, W

The Eagles pick up a final win in Week 17 to clinch a wildcard spot at 9-7. The Redskins will be well out of contention and may or may not play spoiler. Regardless, a win.

In conclusion, I predict the Eagles to go 9-7 with many ups and downs along the way. It will not be an easy season as a fan. But they will clinch playoffs one way or another in this prediction.

How the NFL Top 100 Player List Snubbed the Eagles https://field2court.com/2020/07/29/how-the-nfl-top-100-player-list-snubbed-the-eagles/ https://field2court.com/2020/07/29/how-the-nfl-top-100-player-list-snubbed-the-eagles/#respond Wed, 29 Jul 2020 13:56:00 +0000 https://field2court.com/?p=9388 The NFL Network released their top 100 Players for 2020 list, which was unsurprisingly met with outrage from virtually all football fans, as it should be. For a list voted on by players, it sure seems like it was done by people who have never watched football before. I don’t know if the players are biased, I’d assume they are, but man was this a weak list.

Dec 22, 2019; Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA; Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz (11) reacts after a touchdown run by running back Miles Sanders (not pictured) during the third quarter at Lincoln Financial Field. Mandatory Credit: James Lang-USA TODAY Sports

Chief among my concerns with this list is the lack of Carson Wentz, which is infuriating. This is the same quarterback who carried a team of nobodies to a playoff berth and possibly playoff win if not for a dirty play. The same guy who threw 27 Touchdowns to just 7 Interceptions with the worst wide receiving group in the NFL. The first QB ever to throw for 4000 yards without a receiver who had 500. I have already made numerous articles explaining the greatness of Carson Wentz which few people recognize, and that clearly shows when this list was made. The concern is not as much the fact he didn’t make it, but the people who were voted in over him. And this portion of the story is most infuriating. The list of QBs included over Wentz, Josh Allen, Kyler Murray, Jimmy Garoppolo, Kirk Cousins, and Dak Prescott (who was at 46!). Absolutely criminal. Josh Allen, a quarterback who had significantly worse numbers with a better situation and an elite defense to carry the team in games, Kyler Murray who; although a rookie, went 5-11, Jimmy Garoppolo (who I like but recognize is not better than Carson Wentz), and Dak Prescott who, you already know the situation. These quarterbacks are very obviously guys who are not better than Carson Wentz. And surely when the full list comes out we’ll see players like Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers, and Deshaun Watson, who I think are also worse than Carson Wentz although slightly. Carson Wentz continues to be disrespected on the basis of Nick Foles worship that will taint his career likely for a long time.

Other outreagous rankings include Fletcher Cox at spot 73, (lower than Jurrell Casey); Darius Slay at 92 (below Logan Ryan by a significant amount), Brandon Brooks at 98 (which is just insane for the league’s best guard); Zach Ertz at 85, not below anyone I would disagree with but still criminally low, and Jason Kelce at 94, (which is his Madden rating). Some of the league’s best players that happened to be Eagles were clearly given the short end of the stick, and I’m starting to think the vote was only done by divisional rival players.

As far as we know, there will be only 5 Eagles on the NFL Top 100, all of which were placed criminally low for their production and skill level. And more importantly there were numerous snubs that virtually all NFL analysts would agree should have made the ranking. To conclude, the NFL Top 100 Players List was downright atrocious and further proof that such rankings should be taken with a grain of salt.

Why Carson Wentz is the most Underrated NFL QB https://field2court.com/2020/07/13/why-carson-wentz-is-the-most-underrated-nfl-qb/ https://field2court.com/2020/07/13/why-carson-wentz-is-the-most-underrated-nfl-qb/#respond Mon, 13 Jul 2020 17:50:00 +0000 https://field2court.com/?p=9055 Being an Eagles fan on social media is tough. You deal with constant lies and constant hate that for the most part isn’t deserved. This mainly pertains to the one place on the Eagles roster where there is not a problem. Quarterback. You’d think Carson Wentz CARRYING one of the worst offenses in football to the playoffs (plus a bad defense) would gain him some respect. But no. It all was ruined by a dirty hit by a filthy player in Wentz’s first playoff game. A dirty play. Not a problem with his body, a dirty play. Yet still, he faces disrespect that no other Quarterback in the NFL faces. I will prove, without a shadow of a doubt, that Carson Wentz is not only highly underrated but also one of the top 5 quarterbacks in the NFL today.

Dec 22, 2019; Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA; Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz (11) reacts after his touchdown pass against the Dallas Cowboys during the first quarter at Lincoln Financial Field. Mandatory Credit: Bill Streicher-USA TODAY Sports

First of all, let’s get this out of the way. Wentz is the best QB in his division. Not close. In 2019 that was very clear when you looked at how Wentz played down the stretch and how Dak did. One carried an entirely injured offense to the playoffs, one carried a stacked roster to 8-8. This was not a matter of coaching or of defense. This was a matter of one quarterback with the better talent and better drive to win getting his team over the hump despite a terrible situation.

Carson Wentz also put up better and similar stats in 2019 than Aaron Rodgers and Deshaun Watson, who are considered widely to be top 5 Quarterbacks. Aaron Rodgers and Deshaun Watson were statistically very similar, with Wentz being slightly better than both, with his 27 Touchdown passes to just 7 INTs. Wentz put up these numbers throwing to the worst receiving core in the league down the stretch and injuries piling up on both sides of the ball. While the other two QBs I mentioned are phenomenal and for sure top 10 QBs, I believe that Carson Wentz is not only currently better but will be in the future given proper supporting options.

In 2019, Carson Wentz proved that he can turn a terrible situation into a playoff berth. He was not at fault for the bad situation the Eagles were placed in, and would have went 11-5 in the regular season, had his receivers caught just two game winning passes. Wentz will continue to stun critics and his fans for years to come.

These games are often criticized, and rightfully so. But here I will be making my predictions for notable Eagles Madden Ratings. This will include a starter at every position. After the most important rating, the quarterback, from there will be only lists of the ratings predictions rather than an explanation.

QB- Carson Wentz- 86 Overall

Carson Wentz is coming off a highly impressive and underrated season at QB for the Philadelphia Eagles. And it has and will be noticed by the Madden developers. It has already been leaked that Wentz will feature a Superstar ability and development. All that’s left to know is what will his rating be? Madden has a long history of disrespecting QBs in their ratings, so I will be making a prediction of 86 overall, although I believe it should be in the low 90s.

How can the Eagles Replace Brandon Brooks? https://field2court.com/2020/06/17/how-can-the-eagles-replace-brandon-brooks/ https://field2court.com/2020/06/17/how-can-the-eagles-replace-brandon-brooks/#respond Wed, 17 Jun 2020 17:10:09 +0000 https://field2court.com/?p=8605

Eagles fans were shocked and discouraged by hearing the recent news that RG Brandon Brooks would miss the entirety of the 2020 football season with a torn Achilles. Brooks was set for a big year as the best offensive player on the Eagles and one of the best in the entire league, but that all came to an end with this news, which begs the question, “how do we replace him?”. The answer is, we can’t. But there are potential options to make the blow hurt less. The Eagles being the organization they are, they will probably not take to the smartest method of replacing Brooks, but I expect at least one of the routes I outline to be taken.

Larry Warford

Right Guard Larry Warford was recently released by the New Orleans Saints due to a high cap hit. This is by far the best route for the Eagles to look at. Warford became a staple of an already stacked offensive line in New Orleans, making three straight pro bowls all while missing only 4 combined games. In 2019, he allowed just 2 sacks on the year, which is a fantastic number. Warford will be 29 entering the 2020 year. Warford is the obvious choice to take the spot of Brandon Brooks, but I do not expect the Eagles to sign him to the team as it would actually be a smart move.

Jason Peters

The Eagles have to look into bringing back veteran and future Hall of Fame tackle Jason Peters. Obviously moving Peters to RG may be difficult, but I think it would be a good option. Peters has consistently had a pro bowl level of play even while battling constant injuries and father time for the past 3 seasons. I’d much prefer Peters stay at LT as the blindside blocker for Carson Wentz, but the team has made it clear they are trusting Andre Dillard with that responsibility. Peters has veteran presence and experience that will make the transition to guard a more smooth one. It makes sense to give Peters this role, but again, don’t expect it.

Ronald Leary

Another unlikely but good option to replace Brandon Brooks is veteran free agent guard Ronald Leary. At 31, Leary does not have a full career left in the tank but can still be solid. Battling injuries the last 3 years, Leary has still been sufficient. In his last 4 years, Leary has allowed 3 sacks. Less impressive considering the missed games, but still good numbers for a veteran. Re-injury is likely, but getting as many games as we can out of Leary is positive and certainly better than in-house options.

Jack Driscoll

Rookie Jack Driscoll was a solid late round pick coming out of college. Youth is especially important for the aging offensive line of Philly, and I believed they selected Driscoll expecting a major injury on the right side. I worry if Driscoll is too fresh out of college to produce in the NFL. His skills need work and I do not believe starting him will be successful for the Eagles. He can very well be solid, but it’s more likely he turns out to be horrible, which scares me.

Matt Pryor

This option scares me. Matt Pryor seems to be the most likely guy to replace Brooks this year. And to that I say, “what are you thinking?”. Pryor has not been terrible in his limited snaps, but I think he has the potential to be this year. I can see a total collapse by him as likely, and that is incredibly bad for Carson Wentz and the Eagles RBs. Pryor I don’t believe is ready for this spot. The Eagles seem to have confidence in him, but I believe the smarter options are the first three players I explained in the article earlier. I simply don’t trust Pryor at this point, based on his pre-season and regular season performances.

Top 5 Eagles Breakout Candidates for 2020 https://field2court.com/2020/06/08/top-5-eagles-breakout-candidates-for-2020/ https://field2court.com/2020/06/08/top-5-eagles-breakout-candidates-for-2020/#respond Mon, 08 Jun 2020 17:26:51 +0000 https://field2court.com/?p=8364

The Eagles haqve had a productive off-season in which they have gone from one of the oldest teams in football to a top 15 youngest. With this decrease in experience comes the need for young players to break out and make an impact. I will be outlining 5 players that have the potential to do this on the Eagles.

Andre Dillard

The Eagles made the very poor decision to walk away from veteran Left Tackle Jason Peters in this offseason, leaving second year tackle Andre Dillard to take his place. Dillard wasn’t great by any means in 2019. He showed many weaknesses in power and footwork, but the good news is that a lot of these missteps took place on the right side of the offensive line, where he will not be playing this season. Dillard has the talent to become a top tier left tackle in football, and he’s even shown this several times during 2019’s pre-season and at points in the regular season. But the key is that he uses his talents well and breaks out.

TJ Edwards

In 2019’s offseason, the Eagles decided to sign undrafted free agent linebacker TJ Edwards out of Wisconsin. As a rookie, he accumulated just 23 combined tackles, but he did have a fantastic PFF grade of 86.6. Edwards has always been a solid player since college, but we have to hope he uses his abilities and expanded playing time to become a dominant Off-Ball linebacker for the Eagles, who need quality at that position dearly.

Greg Ward

Greg Ward is somebody that I’m not sure will be given the opportunity to break out in 2020, and it’s not because of any faults of his. Ward showed tremendous promise in the latter quarter of 2019 as he emerged as the top threat at receiver for Carson Wentz due to injuries at the position. The problem for Ward is that the players he replaced are now back, as well as additions made to the wide receiver room in the draft. I have no doubt that if Ward was in the late 2019 situation of being the number one receiver, he would break out this year, but sadly for him that won’t be the case. Ward is not even a lock to make the roster, which I believe is disrespectful, but is nonetheless how these things go. If Ward is given snaps, I expect a breakout year exceeding 700 receiving yards.

Miles Sanders

The 2019 year was a fantastic start for rookie RB Miles Sanders, in which he accumulated over 1300 all purpose yards, 818 of them rushing. Despite sharing carries for a majority of the year, Sanders was able to put up above average stats, impressively doing this as a rookie. I believe that now that the Eagles know what they have in Sanders, an explosive playmaker, they will utilize him such that he can become a top 10 RB in football. I fully expect Sanders to break 1000 rushing yards barring any sort of injury, and perhaps haul in over 600 yards through the air. Sanders is nothing short of dynamic, and if the Eagles know how to use him, he could be the best player on our offense.

Cre’von LeBlanc

Cre’von Leblanc became an instant fan favorite in the playoffs of 2018, when he picked off Drew Brees to start the 2018 divisional round, and before that when he broke up a Mitch Trubisky pass that could have won the Bears the game. Sadly in 2019, Leblanc was hurt for the majority of the year, returning in Week 13. And still, when he was given snaps, he showed up in big ways, with several clutch pass breakups against the Giants and Cowboys leading to a playoff berth. The problem for Cre’von is Doug Pederson and Jim Schwartz’s unwillingness to recognize his talent. He will not be given the snaps he has proven he earned. But in the amount he will have, I have no doubt he will show up.

2020 Eagles Award Predictions https://field2court.com/2020/05/24/2020-eagles-award-predictions/ https://field2court.com/2020/05/24/2020-eagles-award-predictions/#respond Sun, 24 May 2020 18:13:31 +0000 https://field2court.com/?p=8138 The Philadelphia Eagles made a number of moves this off-season to improve the team, as teams often do. But who will be the most impactful players? In this article, we’ll take a look at those players. More specifically awarding players based on categories in the NFL Awards.

MVP: Carson Wentz, QB

It’s no secret that Carson Wentz is the star of this team. Ever since 2016 and especially in 2017 we have seen why he is one of the best quarterbacks the league has to offer. Recently, it was his efforts that led the struggling Eagles to a playoff berth by winning their last 4 games. With an improved offense, Wentz can have an MVP level year. Will he? I don’t think so. But he can certainly perform to a level where he is the Most Valuable Player on this team.

Stat Prediction:

30 TD, 8 INT, 4326 Yds, 13 FUMB

OPOY: Miles Sanders, RB

As a rookie in 2019, Miles Sanders showed the potential to be one of the top RBs in the league, especially toward the end of the season. Though sharing carries up until the injury to Jordan Howard, Sanders managed to reach over 1300 all purpose yards, 800 of them rushing, and roughly 500 through the air. With little experience in the league, he turned in an awesome year, and has shown similarities to one of the league’s best backs in Christian McCaffrey.

Stat Prediction:

1278 Rush Yards, 700 receiving yards, 14 Total TDs, 6 FUMB

DPOY: Darius Slay, CB

When the Eagles acquired Darius Slay from the Lions soon after the start of legal tampering, the hope of Eagles fans everywhere was reignited of an improved secondary. The Eagles have long had an absence of a top tier cornerback, so the Slay acquisition has made us breathe a sigh of relief. Will Darius Slay be yet another instance of the Eagles ruining a corner? I don’t think so. I think he will have a decent year at corner and bring the much needed presence of a ball hawk to this defense.

Stat Prediction:

4 INT, 2 FF, 10 PBU, 64 total tackles

OROY: Jalen Reagor, WR

The Eagles made the questionable choice of refusing to move up in the NFL draft to take a receiver, but at Pick 21 they made a solid enough choice. This was Jalen Reagor, the wide receiver out of Texas Christian University. In college, Reagor showed off his elite speed, at some points running in the 4.2 range when on the field. The Eagles desperately needed to add speed to the much maligned receiving core, and they succeeded in doing so through the draft. What Reagor wasn’t blessed with in college is a good QB. Reagor will now have one in Philadelphia. and hopefully all will pan out for him.

Stat Prediction:

780 yes, 3 TDs

DROY: K’von Wallace, S

When the Eagles picked up K’von Wallace out of Clemson in the 4th round, Eagles fans everywhere thought this was an excellent pick. And I happen to think that too. There aren’t too many stats existent to prove that this rookie is superior to the others joining our defense, but I have the feeling that with the absence of Malcolm Jenkins, that new safeties will have the chance to prove their worth.

Stat Prediction:

1 INT, 5 PBU, 35 total tackles

CBPOY: DeSean Jackson, WR

In Week 1 of 2019, the Eagles offense showed its potential. DeSean Jackson made 8 catches for over 150 yards in 2 TDs. Sadly we would never see this explosive offense again. DeSean Jackson suffered a season ending injury. We could have seen Jackson back in action last year, but he made the awful choice of not getting surgery immediately. Jackson will be fully recovered by the start of 2020. Hopefully with his return we can see the flashes of excellence we saw at the beginning of last year. A deep threat for Carson Wentz is essential to this team’s survival.

BPOY: Andre Dillard, LT

While I can’t disagree with the choice to start Jason Peters last season, we had drafted Andre Dillard in the first round that year. With a year to learn from one of the greatest offensive linemen to ever play football, Dillard may be set to have an excellent year. While he can’t offer the consistent excellence shown by Jason Peters, he has learned enough to become a decent starter for the offensive line. I expect Dillard to break out and be in the conversation for one of the best young tackles.

Why Carson Wentz can explode in 2020 https://field2court.com/2020/05/10/why-carson-wentz-can-explode-in-2020/ https://field2court.com/2020/05/10/why-carson-wentz-can-explode-in-2020/#respond Sun, 10 May 2020 14:18:17 +0000 https://field2court.com/?p=7662

Barring the absolute worst scenario, Carson Wentz is set to have an incredible year in 2020. And it’s possible for it to be on an MVP level. A mistake Eagles fans make, though, is banking on this being a given. Eagles fans should be expecting disappointment from this upcoming season, but it will not be at the fault of their franchise QB. Here is why Carson Wentz logically should explode in 2020.

First, let’s look at some stats from last season. Carson Wentz finished the year with 28 total touchdowns, (27 passing), 4039 yards, and 7 interceptions. On the surface that already puts him among the top 10 at each category in the league. For comparison, these stats mirror those and debatably outperform those of Deshaun Watson and Aaron Rodgers. These QBs are considered among the best, but as soon as you mention Carson Wentz, you get shouted down as illogical. Not only is 27 touchdowns incredible in itself, but this was without having even a top 50 and even 60 receiver in the league. That is insane. The mistake people often make is using the incredible TE group to rationalize Wentz’s stats, but that is not how football works. A similar thing happens with Derek Carr. Having Darren Waller isn’t sufficient. But Carson Wentz statistically outperformed Derek Carr as well, showing the ability to put a team on his back. Given these stats, it’s also important to note Carson Wentz had 8 touchdown drops in 2019 as well as 3 game winning or tying ones. Provided these go the right way, the Eagles are 12-4 and Carson Wentz is in strong MVP consideration. This doesn’t even count the loss against the Dolphins that rested entirely on the defense. So using this logic we come to the conclusion that through Carson Wentz’s effort and provided he had acceptable help, the Eagles would have been a 13-3 football team. Just imagine if Carson Wentz had decent playmakers and a top 20 defense. Would have spared Eagles fans the torture of dealing with internet morons.

The Eagles are now getting their receiving core back and healthy. Among these weapons, Jalen Reagor, DeSean Jackson, Alshon Jeffery, Marquise Goodwin, and Greg Ward, along with several other new faces. There are legitimate backups that we can use this year. We didn’t have that before. Does this mean the Eagles will be 13-3? Of course not. But it likely will mean an increase in good stats for Carson Wentz. 13-3 or better is a possibility, although unlikely, but no doubt Carson Wentz can show his ability to shine this year if the core stays healthy.
